December 2013

Christmas activities will soon be underway starting on Sunday, Nov. 24 with the Community Choir presenting their Christmas concert, “The Night Before Christmas” at 5 p.m. at the Woonsocket Community Center.
This is a great inspirational event to kick off the Christmas season. A potluck meal will follow the concert. The choir will also present the concert on Monday, Nov. 25 at Prairie View Care Center at 7 p.m.
Residents in the area are urged to put out Christmas signs and decorations to help make our county towns festive. Many streets and avenues in the past have had various themes.
The Sanborn County Courthouse will again be hosting  the “Parade of Trees.” They are asking businesses, 4-H clubs, social clubs, schools, churches and individuals in the county to bring an artificial tree to the courthouse (no lights) and decorate it.
Trees should be placed between Dec. 2-6. They will remain there the rest of December and be removed by Jan. 4. Any questions can be directed to Diane Larson or Lynn Brueske in the courthouse.
An open house in the courthouse will be held Friday, Dec. 13 from 1-5 p.m. with courthouse employees serving coffee, cookies, bars and cider. Santa will visit with the children from 3-4:30 p.m. that day.
This year they are also planning a scavenger hunt with some county trivia. The trees can be viewed any day the courthouse is open.
These are some of the community activities that people can participate in to find inspiration and joy this holiday season.
