Brice S. Cody

Mount Vernon

cody obit    Brice Cody, 47, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at his rural Mount Vernon home.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Grace Baptist Church in Mitchell with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Letcher.
Brice Stephen Cody was born April 22, 1969, at Fargo, N.D., to John and Janice (Roe) Cody. He received his GED at a young age after accelerating a number of grades in school. He also excelled in basketball, volleyball, swimming, mountain climbing, snow skiing and horsemanship. Brice was an avid poet, songwriter and musician. He was a strong advocate on the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse, even though he struggled with prescribed medication, which caused him to succumb to his death in a snowstorm.
He was a single, stay-at-home dad with a sense of humor. Brice had accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and would want everyone to give up their addictions and ask Jesus to save them.
Brice is survived by his two children, Ella Cody and Sabre’ Devault; his mother and stepfather, Janice and Bill Cronk; half brothers and sisters; aunts, uncles and cousins; and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Arrangements were with Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Myah Selland is officially a Jackrabbit.
At a small ceremony Wednesday morning, before school started at Sanborn Central High School, Selland and some of her teammates, with whom she had just 12 hours earlier won a region volleyball game to gain a second-in-a-row trip to the state tournament, gathered in the gym to see her sign her official letter of intent to play basketball next fall for South Dakota State.
It was a whirlwind few hours for Selland, as she led her team in a 3-1 win over Arlington in the Region 3B Championship, with a 30-kill, 17-dig kind of night, then arrived to school the next morning to make her commitment to become one of the Jackrabbits’ 2017 freshman class.
