Marguerite Kilcoin

Sioux Falls

Kilcoin obit pic 13    Marguerite Kilcoin, 94, of Sioux Falls, and formerly of Woonsocket, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, Nov. 15 at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket with Fr. Jim Friedrich officiating. A scripture service with rosary was Monday, Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the church.
Marguerite Lorraine Kilcoin was the seventh of eight children born July 17, 1922, in a farmhouse outside of Woonsocket to Nick and Magdalena Thill. She attended school in Woonsocket and Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell.
On June 6, 1945, she married Tom (Pips) Kilcoin and enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage and raising eight children in the Woonsocket area.
Marguerite was a devout Catholic who was very active in many different religious organizations at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church and throughout the diocese. For many years she was President of the Blue Army of Fatima dedicated to honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was a true homemaker who enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and had a home where family and friends were always welcomed. Her life was enriched in their home that was filled with music, dance and laughter. She especially enjoyed doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Linda) of Woonsocket, Kate (Don) Barnes, Tina (Joe) Arend, and Gina (Gregg) Hoffmann, all of Sioux Falls, Bill (Linda) of Hill City, and Sheri (Tom) Stiltz of Baltimore, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her two sons, James and Matthew; granddaughter, Andrea; and all of her siblings.

Fern Maeschen

Mitchell

Fern obit 13    Fern Maeschen, 83, of Mitchell, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
Graveside services were at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian. Visitation was from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Will Funeral Chapel.
Fern Hofp, daughter of Carl and Edna (Schneider) Hofp, was born in Turner County. She grew up on the family farm near Artesian and attended country school there.
She was united in marriage with Wallace Maeschen, Sr., on March 8, 1957, in Luverne, Minn. The couple made their home in Mitchell, where Fern was employed at various businesses. She retired at the age of 62 from the Anthony Motel in Mitchell.
Fern was a member of Mitchell Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed reading religious literature.
Survivors include her five children, Doug Maeschen, Wallace Maeschen, Jr., Sharon Maeschen, and Kay (James) Tegethoff, all of Mitchell, and Karen Maeschen of Ames, Iowa; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Maeschen, Sr.; her parents; and her siblings.

Ileane Brosnan

Woonsocket

Ileane obit 13    Ileane Mary Brosnan, 89, of Woonsocket, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, John and Marilyn Nissen in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 14, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket with Fr. Jim Friedrich officiating. Visitation with a 7 p.m. scripture service was Sunday, Nov. 13, from 6-9 p.m., at Basham Funeral Home in Woonsocket.
Ileane was born Dec. 25, 1926, to Frank and Mary (Olinger) Jackson on a farm near Woonsocket. She had two brothers, Jerry and Darrell, and three sisters, Iola, Lois and Delores.
She attended Woonsocket School and graduated from Lane High School. She then attended college at Wessington Springs to receive a teacher’s certificate. She was teaching all eight grades in a country school by the time she was 17 years old.
On Aug. 2, 1947, she married John R. Brosnan at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. They had one daughter, Marilyn, and one son, Morris. Ileane helped her husband restore and sell new and used farm equipment, and they also raised sheep, black angus cattle, chickens and geese. She was an excellent cook, an accomplished seamstress and raised large gardens. She and her husband enjoyed playing cards, square dancing and taking trips together.
Ileane was a member of St. Wilfrid Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and was also involved with St. Joseph Catholic School Mothers Club. She was deputy auditor at the Sanborn County Courthouse, worked at the Meadows Café, and helped at the B & N furniture store in Woonsocket.
She is survived by her two children, Marilyn (John) Nissen of Woonsocket, and Morris (LaVonne) Brosnan of Rapid City; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
Ileane was preceded in death by her husband, John; mother and father, Mary and Frank; brother, Darrell; and sister, Iola.
