Church 12 webThe first service at Spirit of Faith Lutheran-Methodist Church in Woonsocket took place last Sunday after a two and a half year journey of vision and planning.
The new church, which still has Lutheran and Methodist affiliations, was approved by the South Dakota ELCA Synod and the Methodist Conference in mid-October. A congregational vote of overwhelming approval on Sunday, Oct. 30, gave the new church a reason for much celebration on All-Saints Sunday.
The Sunday morning excitement was evident with a singing performance by the children of the church, the joining of 16 new members to the congregation, and remembrances of those saints who have passed and those who continue to live among us.

The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Lady Blackhawks earned a spot in the Region 3B Championship game with wins over Wessington Springs and James Valley Christian this past week.
Last Thursday, the Hawks cleaned up on the Lady Spartans with an easy 3-0 win to advance to the District 6B Championship the following evening. Set scores were 25-8, 25-16 and 25-9.
Myah Selland led her team with 17 kills and four blocks. Kayla Olson added on 23 assists, while Erica Howard had six aces.
Friday night found the Blackhawk girls back on the court to face the James Valley Christian Vikings for the District title. A close, five-set match ended with SCW on top, 3-2. Set scores were 25-15, 25-11, 22-25, 25-27 and 15-4.
Selland again led the way with 12 kills, 10 blocks and 13 digs. Olson added on 36 assists. Kyla Morgan wrote her name in the books with 10 kills and 14 digs. Maddie Vermeulen had seven aces, while Tristan Ziebart added 13 digs and four aces.
The Blackhawks (20-6) were set to play Arlington (23-7) Tuesday night for the Region 3B Championship and punch their ticket to the State “B” Volleyball Tournament.

Woonsocket sixth graders learn flag etiquette

Flag folding 12 web    David Kogel, who is a member of the Woonsocket American Legion, came to the Woonsocket sixth grade class to teach all students how to properly fold the American flag. The students then practiced folding the flag. They will be using their flag-folding skills at the Woonsocket Elementary Veteran’ Day Program on Nov. 10, at the Woonsocket gymnasium at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and join in support of our veterans!
