Eight students represented Sanborn Central and Woonsocket schools at the All-State Chorus and Orchestra Concert on Saturday evening at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
They performed with over 900 other students from South Dakota schools after two days of intense rehearsal with the guest chorus director, Dr. Jerry Blackstone from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance in Ann Arbor. Three selections were performed with the All-State Orchestra, which also met for the same two days.
Students chosen to take part in the All-State Chorus from Sanborn Central and Woonsocket schools were: Byron Jessen, Koby Larson, Aaron Linke, Sydney Zeller, Ashleigh Fry, Breanne Brandenburg, Renee Farmer and Abigayle Fry. They are directed by Jenny Easton.

Jeff LaVine, Wayne Feistner and Randy Larson caught their limit of walleye and small-mouth bass recently at Lake Klich near Webster. Larson and Feistner both caught a 27-inch walleye, and Feistner also caught a 19-1/2-inch bass, which made him a proud angler.

The 40th Annual Sanborn County American Cancer Society Benefit Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, at Woonsocket.
Participating teams include the fifth and sixth grade girls and boys from Mount Vernon/Plankinton, Ethan, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket and Wessington Springs schools.
The girls’ games will begin at 9 a.m. with SCW vs WS, followed by MV/P vs Ethan.  The third and fourth place game will be next, and then the championship game.
The boys’ games will begin at approximately 1 p.m. with SCW vs MV/P, followed by Ethan vs WS.  The third and fourth grade game will be next, and then the championship game.
Admission will be $5 for adults and $2 for students. Proceeds will go to the Sanborn County Amercian Cancer Society.
