Viola Thompson

Wessington Springs

viola obit    Viola Thompson, 92, of Wessington Springs, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at the Madison Regional Health System in Madison.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 20, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs with interment in Solberg Cemetery southeast of Wessington Springs. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Basham Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 19.
Viola L. Thompson was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Sanborn County to Charles and Leona Doran. She completed her education at Lane.
She was united in marriage to Lester Thompson on Jan. 31, 1944. They farmed in Aurora and Jerauld counties for 50 years. She worked part-time in the Director of Equalization office and at the Weskota Memorial Hospital for 16 years as a CNA and as an aide in physical therapy. She was a member of the Tuesday Sues Extension Club and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
Viola is survived by her children, Larry (Cecile) of Portland, Ore., Roger (Mary) of Wessington Springs, Kevin (Luanne) of Virgil, Brian (Brenda) of Madison, Jerry (Amy) of Pipestone, Minn., Charlotte Kiepke of Phoenix, Ariz., and Connie (Dave) Popp of Hutchinson, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; siblings, Leola Wenz and Kenneth Doran; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and son, Dennis.

Charyl Saunier

Linn, Mo.

Saunier obit    Charyl E. Saunier, 77, of Linn, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at her daughter’s residence in Nevada, Mo.
A Celebration of Life gathering was held on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Morton Chapel in Linn, Mo.
Charyl was born Feb. 9, 1940, in Letcher, to Charles and Bernadine (Dunbar) Thomas. She was a 1958 graduate of Mitchell High School, and later received her nursing education in Amarillo, Texas.
On Jan. 23, 1973, Charyl was united in marriage to Louis “Louie” Saunier at St. Johns United Methodist Church in Linn. She worked as an LPN at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City and at Green Meadows Nursing Home in Linn. She later worked as a teacher’s aid at the Linn Middle School.
Charyl enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, reading murder mysteries, sewing, knitting and traveling. She also was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Charyl is survived by her husband of 44 years; five daughters, Teresa (Joe) Loranger of Laurel, Md., Denise (Karl) Jaegers of La Monte, Mo., Diane (Terry) Clayton of Jefferson City, Mo., Suzanne (Larry) Fritts of Nevada, Mo., and Paula (David) Caywood of Linn; one brother, Richard “Dick” (Jeanne) Thomas of Rapid City; one sister, Lorraine Larson of Woonsocket; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Vernon and Gene Thomas.
Arrangements were with Morton Chapel, Linn, Mo.

Clinton L. Gerleman

Woonsocket

clint obit    Clinton L. Gerleman, 88, of Woonsocket, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, in Avera Weskota Hospital in Wessington Springs.
The memorial gathering was from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, at Basham Funeral Chapel in Woonsocket. The private burial was in Eventide Cemetery in Woonsocket.
Clinton was born on March 23, 1928, in Woonsocket, to Louis and Mabel (Jensen) Gerleman. He was born on the family farm a mile west of Woonsocket and lived in the large house on First Avenue and Highway 34 for 50 years.
Clinton worked at the family business Gerleman Produce and the family farm, raising pigs, sheep, cows and alfalfa.
He enjoyed fishing at the Jim River, listening to old Country Western music and attending movies.
He is survived by his brother, Loren of Sioux Falls; nephew, Joel Gerleman of Lake Preston; and cousin, Marian (James) Eartherton of Sturgis.
