Bailey 33 web    Bailey Moody was among the seven students that presented their research at Dakota State University’s annual Research Symposium on Wednesday, March 29.
Moody, a freshman at DSU, searched for resistant strands of MRSA in soil sludge that had been fertilized with some type of waste product, and discovered that the soil sludge had much higher cases of the resistant MRSA than unfertilized soil.
Each student received a grant in the fall to help support his or her research.
Bailey is the daughter of Perry and Tracy Moody of Letcher.

Myah Selland was unsurprisingly announced to the first team of the Class B All-State girls basketball team recently, and was also chosen as Argus Leaders’ First Five Player of the Year.
This is Selland’s third season selected to the first All-State team and fourth overall Class B All-State selection.
The Argus Leader also recently announced Selland as their girls First Five Player of the Year for 2016. This is the third year she’s been chosen for the First Five accolade, as she takes the highest honor of Player of the Year her senior year.
As Selland collects awards for her final incredible high school basketball season, she continues on as a regular student at Sanborn Central High School — running track, attending prom and maintaining her 4.09 GPA — while gearing up for the next chapter of her basketball career at South Dakota State.
Selland joined the SCW basketball team her seventh grade year, the little sister of the Blackhawks’ team leader Shelby Selland, who is now making noise on the court as an Augustana Viking. Shelby graduated after a runner-up State B finish in 2014, leaving Myah to take the reins, which she did with much grace and confidence.
In the six years Myah’s been a Blackhawk, the team has attended five State B tournaments, culminating in another runner-up finish, this one led by the little sister.

…Read Myah’s stats in this week’s issue of the Sanborn Weekly Journal.

Distracted Driving 33 web    Tim Weidenbach of Parkston recently gave a presentation to the seventh-12th grade Woonsocket School students on distracted driving. Tim’s cousin, Andrea, was killed by a distracted driver in 2014.
