Avery Miller, daughter of Bud and Casey Miller of Woonsocket, was crowned the 2018 Princess of the Foothills Rodeo over the weekend.

On Friday she competed in a horsemanship competition, where they did patterns with their horse.

Dressed in her pageant attire, she then gave a speech and answered impromptu questions, one on horse knowledge and the other on her own personal opinion; she was asked, “What makes a cowboy?”

The competition ended with an interview session with three judges and a silent judge. She won the interview session, as well.

Avery was crowned by the reigning princess, Delaney Zoss.

The Blackhawks’ spring baseball season came to an end in the region tournament in Dell Rapids on Tuesday, May 22. They lost a hard fought battle against Madison with a score of 8-11.

The Blackhawks end their season with a record of 6-2 and several players earned awards for their efforts on and off the field. John Witte, Trey Weber and Trent Kingsbury all earned Academic All-State honors. Gunnar Brandenburg, Kingsbury, Noah Hainy and Trever Schmidt all earned All-Region honors, and Brandenburg was also the only Blackhawk to make the All-State team.
