Letcher Town Board proceedings

October 4th, 2018

Mayor Chada called the meeting to order with Hoffman and Meier in attendance. 

A motion was made by Hoffman, seconded by Chada, carried, to approve September 18th, 2018, minutes as read.

A motion was made by Hoffman, seconded by Chada, carried, to approve the financials as presented.

Old Business: 

A discussion was held on the water sample report.

Discussion was held on past due accounts. 

The Board placed ads in the Sanborn Weekly Journal to run for two weeks.

A discussion was held on ordinances. The board is still waiting to hear back from District III on them.  

Discussion was held on the safety benefits paperwork deadline extending until February 2019.

New Business: 

A discussion was held on purchasing/trading in for a new lawn mower.  

A motion was made by Hoffman, seconded by Chada, carried, to approve to purchase a lawn mower.

Discussion was held on a water bill issue. 

A discussion was held on ordinances that the board is still waiting on Brian from District III to review.

Discussion was held on an application received for a job position. It will be discussed at the next meeting. 

The board discussed health insurance. The board will be meeting with Fischer Rounds in the future. 

A discussion was held on a Homeland Security Grant. The board will fill out paperwork for the Federal Emergency Management Agency to receive the approval letter. Once the approval letter is received, the board can order the warning siren.

A motion was made by Hoffman, seconded by Chada, carried, to approve the financials as presented.

Old Business: 

A discussion was held on the water sample report.

Mark attended the Northwestern meeting. Discussion was held on bringing natural gas to communities from Mitchell to Chamberlain.  More information to come at a later date. 

CorInsurance renewals were due and need to be signed.

A motion was made by Hoffman, seconded by Larson, carried, to approve 2019 renewals of Town of Letcher Insurance. 

A discussion was held on hiring a meter reader and a maintenance/snow removal/mowing position.  The position will be advertised in the Sanborn Weekly Journal.

Discussion was held on the Town of Letcher General, Water, and Sewer Budgets for 2019.

A motion was made by Larson, seconded by Hoffman, carried, to approve the budget for 2019. 

A discussion was held on the safety benefits paperwork received. The board plans on working on the improvements.

New Business:

General AND WATER/SEWER: Morgan Theeler – $149.10 – Professional Fees, TopKote – $6,464.00 – Black Top East End of Main Street, Doug’s Custom Paint and Body – $95.99 – mower supplies, Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield – $2,025.25 – health insurance.

The next board meeting will be held on October 4th, 2018, at 7:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, Oct. 23, the SCW Lady Blackhawks traveled to Plankinton to take on the Mt. Vernon/Plankinton Titans. It was a great game and tough battle, but it ended with a loss for the Blackhawks in four sets with scores of 16-25, 25-15, 16-25 and 22-25. 

The Lady Blackhawks end their regular season with a record of 16-11. Their first round of the region tournament was played on Tuesday, Oct. 30 in Madison. The final round of region play will be on Thursday, Nov. 1, again in Madison, to determine who gets to advance to the Round of 16.
