Betty Olson

Huron

Betty L. Olson, 87, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018 at Prairie View Healthcare Community.

Her funeral service was held on Saturday, Nov. 24 at First Baptist Church in Huron with the burial that followed at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation and a Time of Sharing were held on Friday, Nov. 23 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.

Betty Lou Marone was born on Sept. 25, 1931 to Richard and Clara (VanMoorlehem) Marone in Beadle County. She attended Miner Rural Elementary, south of Cavour through the eighth grade. Then she attended Huron High School, graduating in 1951.

Betty married Donald N. Olson on June 12, 1951 in Huron. Betty was a farmwife, raising her children on the family farm. Betty loved living on the farm and remained on the farm as long as her health allowed. She did enjoy being a substitute school bus driver from 1978-1987.

She was a member of Farm Bureau, 4-H, Grange, Beadle County Extension Club, Fairfield Ladies Aid and First Baptist Church. Don and Betty hosted several foreign exchange students and, in their retirement, they were able to visit some of them in Europe.

Betty is survived by her children, Cherry (Willis) Hunter of Sioux Falls, Dawn (John) Coughlin of Huron, Kirk Olson of Huron, and Carol (Don) Vancura of Barnesville, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald (Lorraine) Marone; two sisters, Jackie (Raymond) Kuhl and Marilyn Tounsley; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2006; a daughter, Connie May on May 15, 1954; two brothers, Russell and George Marone; and a brother-in-law, Jack Tounsley. 

Marie Rankin

Woonsocket

Marie B. Rankin, 98, of Woonsocket, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018 at the Prairie View Healthcare Community. 

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 26, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. Burial was in St. Wilfrid Cemetery with Fr. Jim Friedrich officiating. Visitations with Rosary and scripture service were held at the Basham Funeral Home in Woosocket on Sunday, Nov. 25 with Fr. Gerald Thury and prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Marie was born Sept. 28, 1920, to Henry and Mary (Eining) Hinker on the family farm near Forestburg. She attended country grade school.

Marie married Peter Rankin on May 29, 1946 at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. They lived and farmed northwest of town. Peter passed away in 1984. Marie continued to live on their farm until she moved back to the Hinker family farm with her brother, Victor. She moved into an apartment in Woonsocket in 2003, where she resided until she entered Prairie View Healthcare Community in December of 2017.

She was a lifetime member of St. Wilfrid Catholic Church and a member of St. Wilfrid’s Altar Society, St. Francis Circle, Quilting for Others, and was recently recognized as a 50 plus year member of Catholic Daughters of America.

Marie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter; sisters, Clara Schmidt, Leona Baysinger, Bernice Rankin, and Veronica Holtkamp; brothers, William and Victor Hinker.

Tami Kay Sudbeck

Mitchell

Tami K. Sudbeck, 52, of Mitchell, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018 under hospice care in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at Holy Three Kings Cemetery in Epiphany. Visitation and prayer services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Tami Kampshoff was born on Oct. 5, 1966 in Huron to the late Ronald Kampshoff and Denise Tyrell. She was raised in Mitchell by Ronald Callies and her mother. Tami graduated from Mitchell High School in 1984.

After graduating, she attended Mount Marty for two years and transferred to the University of South Dakota for Speech Pathology. Since then she continually worked as a speech pathologist for over 20 years after earning her master’s degree from USD.

While attending college, she met James Reimnitz. They were married and had three children and she gained two stepdaughters. In 2015, she married Tom Sudbeck and gained two stepsons and a daughter-in-law.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, Megan (Juan), Ahnna (Josh), and Christopher; husband, Tom; step-children, Shawn (Andrea), TJ, Joslyn, and Justine; mother, Denise Callies; sisters, Danelle (Doug) Miiller, Lanette (Clayton) Dean, Ronda Carpenter, and Angie (Jerry) Wright; beloved friend, Tracy (Jeff) Boomsma; many close nieces, nephews and many beloved friends.

Tami was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Kamshoff; brother, Bob Kampshoff; stepfather, Ronald Callies; and grandparents.
