Sanborn County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. with Chairman Ebersdorfer presiding. Other members present were: S. Larson, Ohlrogge, Blindauer, and P. Larson. Also present was Auditor Larson. Motion by Ohlrogge, seconded by P. Larson, to approve the minutes as presented. All ayes. Motion carried. 

HIGHWAY

Sheri Kogel, Highway Administrative Assistant, met with the board. Stacy Mendenhall, Foreman, was busy plowing roads.  Road conditions in the county were discussed. Board members have had good reports about the job the highway department is doing. 

LETCHER FIRE DEPARTMENT  

Andy Ettswold, Letcher Fire Department, met with the board to request help with purchasing a Jaws of Life and a carbon monoxide detector for the department. The total price for the two is $20,443.00. Motion by Blindauer, seconded by S. Larson, to pay $10,000.00 towards this with the provision the county would do the same for the Artesian Fire Department and T&C if they would purchase the same equipment. All ayes. Motion carried.  

EAGLE SCOUT DONATION

Kadin Schlenker, a senior at Woonsocket High School is working to become an Eagle Scout.  He must do a project in order to accomplish this. His project is to build a picnic shelter at the ball park. He is asking for some monetary help to complete his project.  Motion by S. Larson, seconded by Blindauer, to donate $100.00 towards the project. P. Larson abstained from voting. Motion carried. 

11:50 A.M. EXECUTIVE SESSION

Motion by Blindauer, seconded by S. Larson, to go into executive session at 11:50 a.m. All ayes.  Motion carried. Ebersdorfer declared an end to executive session at 12:00 p.m.

HIGHWAY SUPERINTENDENT

After conducting interviews, motion by S. Larson, seconded by Blindauer, to hire Stacy Mendenhall as highway superintendent at a starting salary of $45,000.00 per year. All ayes. Motion carried.
