Goldie Framness

Goldie Rose Framness, 92, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at the Weskota Manor nursing home in Wessington Springs. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, at Kinzley Funeral Home, Madison. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Burial will be held at 12:45 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, near Chester. Arrangements were entrusted to Kinzley Funeral Home (www.kinzleyfh.com).

Goldie Rose Pekarek was born on Feb. 9, 1930, at Kimball, to Frank and Lillian (Burkine) Pekarek. In 1940, she moved with her family to a farm near Ramona. Goldie married Elmer Henry Framness on April 3, 1947, at Pipestone, Minn. After their wedding, they farmed near Chester from 1947 to 1979. In 1979, they moved to Madison. Goldie was the seamstress for the Madison area for many years. She also worked at Dakota State and cleaned houses into her 80s. Goldie moved to Brandon in January of 2019 to be closer to her great-grandchildren. She then moved to Woonsocket in October of 2019. In April of 2021, she entered the Weskota Manor Nursing Home in Wessington Springs.

Goldie enjoyed watching her grandkids and great-grandchildren play sports, but not football; she was afraid that they would get hurt. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Madison. Goldie was involved with the Madison Senior Citizen’s Center and their dances.

Goldie is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Art) Hannemann of Watertown, Wis., Shirley Redfield of Grove City, Ohio, and Joyce (Dick) Zell of Woonsocket; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 2011; son, Gary Dean; brothers, Marcus and Ted; and one sister, Elise Kloss.

Marvin Northrup

Mitchell

Marvin Joseph Northrup, 89, of Mitchell, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital. 

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 24, at the Letcher Community Church, Letcher, with burial and military rites at the Butler Cemetery, rural Letcher. Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service.

Marvin Joseph Northrup, son of Joseph and Dakota (Alexander) Northrup was born May 14, 1933, in rural Letcher. He attended country school before graduating from Letcher High School in 1951. After his schooling, Marvin helped on the family farm.

He entered the US Army on May 19, 1953, and served 18 months at Quartermaster Depot at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal on May 10, 1955. After his discharge, Marvin returned to the farm.

Marvin was united in marriage with Joan Black on Feb. 2, 1958, in Armour. The couple lived on a farm northeast of Letcher. In 1978, Marvin began working with the Letcher Co-op Elevator and continued there until 1991. He started working at MJ Aviation in the fall of 1991 and retired on Dec. 22, 2017. During that time, the couple moved north of Mitchell.

Marvin enjoyed collecting toy tractors, toy airplanes and rocks. He also enjoyed woodworking and dancing.

He was a member of the Letcher Community Church and the Letcher American Legion for 60 plus years.

Marvin is survived by his children, Krystal Northrup of Mitchell, Bradley (Jennifer) Northrup of Junction City, Kan., and Jewel (Bobby) Kopfmann of Virgil; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma (Robert) Moe of Mitchell; two sisters-in-law, Janice Northrup of Mitchell and Ella Mae Wood of Denver; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Northrup; a son, Joseph Northrup; his parents; and a brother, Duane.

Per Administrative Rule 5:02:05:02:01

Any voter who can’t mark a ballot because the voter has a physical disability or can’t read, may ask any person he or she chooses to help the voter vote.                                                                                               Any voter may ask for instruction in the proper procedure for voting.                                                           Any voter at the polling place prior to 7:00 p.m. is allowed to cast a ballot. 

If your voting rights have been violated, you may call the person in charge of the election at 605-796-4513, the Secretary of State at 888-703-5328, or your state’s attorney.

Any person who is convicted of a felony on or after July 1, 2012, loses the right to vote. However, any such person may register to vote following the completion of the person’s felony sentence.  

Any person who is convicted of a felony on or before June 30, 2012, and who receives a sentence of imprisonment to the adult penitentiary system, including a suspended execution of sentence, loses the right to vote. Any such person so sentenced may register to vote following completion of the person’s sentence. Further information is available at www.sdsos.gov.

ELECTION CRIMES 

Anyone who makes a false statement when voting, tries to vote knowing he or she is not a qualified voter, or tries to vote more than once has committed an election crime.
