On Saturday, Oct. 25, two Sanborn Central/Woonsocket cross country runners, seventh grader Emrie VonEye and eighth grader Jackson Wolter, competed in the state meet in Huron at Broadland Creek Golf Course. Both VonEye and Wolter ran well, claiming medals for finishing in the top 25.
In the Class B boys division, Wolter crossed the line in 22nd place out of 121 runners, with a time of 17 minutes, 58.31 seconds. In the Class B girls division, VonEye earned 14th place out of 111 competitors with 20:21.53.
The future looks bright for the SCW cross country program with a large team of runners. Two seniors, Andie Aughenbaugh and Liz Boschee, will graduate in the girls’ group, but in the boys’ group, the oldest runner this season was only a freshman. These younger runners are going to keep making Blackhawk nation proud.
