WOONSOCKET – Dawn Rassel has been awarded the March Employee of the Month by Horizon Health Care. Each month, Horizon Health Care recognizes one employee, from all their employees across the state, who exhibits professional qualities related to Horizon’s mission, vision, and values.

Rassel is a lab/x-ray technician at Woonsocket Community Health Center. For the past 26 years, she has been committed to patient care and advocated for rural health in the Woonsocket community. 

Her nomination form stated: “Dawn demonstrates respect, teamwork and quality on a daily basis. She is very knowledgeable and skilled with the lab reports and is a go-to with any questions. Dawn is a great patient and healthcare advocate. Not only does she treat the patients with the highest respect, but her coworkers as well. She is a true team player and a very valuable employee to us all here at the Woonsocket clinic. The patients here trust, respect and feel comfortable knowing Dawn is here at the clinic helping provide care.”

WOONSOCKET – Margie Larson has retired from the Horizon Health Care board of directors after serving for the past 25 years.

As a native of Woonsocket, Larson has been advocating for rural health care across South Dakota. Throughout her time with Horizon, she’s been actively involved with major mergers, new access points, and the addition of dental services. As Horizon has significantly grown these last 25 years, Larson has been committed to the health center mission in providing South Dakota patients with affordable, quality health care.

“Our board of directors plays an important role in guiding our organization’s vision, growth and strategic initiatives,” said Wade Erickson, chief executive officer. “I am grateful to Margie for volunteering her time all these years to ensure quality health care is being delivered across the state. We are thankful for her support and wish her the best.”

Huron, – Dakotaland Federal Credit Union awarded 10 area students with $10,000 in College Scholarships for the 2022-23 school year. Twelve committee members from across Dakotaland’s ten branch communities judged nearly 45 scholarship applications. “It was evident from the applications we reviewed, how dedicated these students are to their future success. So many are volunteering in their communities, involved in a number of extra-curricular activities, working part-time jobs, and still able to reach exceptional academic achievements. I was thoroughly impressed with these young men and women and loved getting to know them through the application process,” stated Angie Hanson, Scholarship Committee Member and Member Services Representative of the Watertown Branch Office. 

Dilyn Brooks of Woonsocket will graduate from Woonsocket High School and will be attending Lake Area Technical College in Watertown majoring in Agriculture. She was awarded $1,000 to use toward her continued education.

“Our future is as strong as our next generation of young leaders and I am excited to see such a solid representation of our area students setting goals and making plans. Dakotaland is proud to support these students in their future endeavors. I personally congratulate this year’s scholarship winners and wish them the best as they venture into their next chapter,” added Credit Union President, Ryan Goehner.
