Rachel Selland, a senior at Woonsocket High School, has signed a letter of intent to join the Dakota Wesleyan Lady Tigers basketball program.
Selland was a four-year starter and helped lead the Lady Blackhawks to three straight trips to the State B Tournament. They finished fourth in 2012, fifth in 2013 and were State Runners-up this last season. She earned State B All Tournament team in 2013.
Selland also earned the KOOL 98 player of the game for the 2012 region championship and also first round of the 2014 state tournament. She was named to the 281 All-Conference and CBH All-Conference teams in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Selland also earned All-Conference honors in volleyball and was Academic All-State. Selland averaged 7.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and two steals per game and shot 59 percent from the field.
“Rachel is an outstanding young lady and we are all proud of her signing with Dakota Wesleyan Lady Tigers!  She has been a very integral part of our success,” says Co-Head Coach Rob Baruth.
“We have gone a combined 70-8 the last three seasons. Rachel is the type of girl that is more concerned with the success of the team and will do whatever is needed to accomplish that. She also started as a freshman for Woonsocket and was the sixth man as an eighth grader, helping to lead the Lady Redmen to a 30-14 record in those two seasons.”
Rachel is the daughter of Brad and Chris Selland of Letcher and is planning a career in elementary and special education.

Shelby Selland has added to her awards resumé once again with her outstanding performance on the hardwood this past season.
Selland was recently awarded the 2013-14 South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year for Class B. Just one girl and boy from each class receives this honor statewide.
She led the Blackhawks to a 24-2 season this past year and three straight state tournaments, with fourth, fifth and second place finishes. Among her many accolades is the Class B All-Tournament Team, first team All-State and All-Conference in the 281 and CBH.
The 6-foot-2 senior center averaged 18.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season. Selland has racked up a stunning 1,588 points and 786 rebounds throughout her basketball career. She has committed to Augustana College to play basketball next year.
She is the daughter of Brett and Kelly Selland of Letcher.
Selland receives this award in the company of Mitchell’s Macy Miller, Elk Point-Jefferson’s Keely Bertram, Rapid City Stevens’ Steven Schaefer, Madison’s Trae VandeBerg and James Valley Christian’s Nathan Wedel.
