Robert O. Boom, 82, of Woonsocket died Friday, March 21 at the Avera Weskota Memorial Medical Center in Wessington Springs.  Funeral services and burial will be in Florida. Local arrangements were announced by the Basham Funeral Home in Woonsocket.

Marie Long, 93, of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, March 17, 2014, at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were Monday, March 24 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation was Sunday, March 23 at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. A memorial fund has been established.
Marie Long was born Oct. 1, 1920, to Fred and Effie (Cooley) Kent at Mt. Vernon. After her mother died when she was nine, Marie was raised by her uncle and aunt, Fay and Louine Sibley. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1939.
On Feb. 6, 1941, she married Mark R. Long at his parent’s home south of Mt. Vernon. They farmed south of Mt. Vernon until moving into Mt. Vernon in 1993. She had been a resident of Prairie View Care Center since 2010. Marie was a wonderful mother and homemaker, a lifelong member of the Friendly Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the 8 & 40.
Marie is survived by six children, Janet (Larry) Thill, Kay (Willie) Schoenfelder, Jerry (Sandy) Long, all of Mitchell, Jean (Jim) Lovrien of Northfield, Minn., JoAnn Long, of Topeka, Kan., and Ronnie (Sandi) Long of Mt. Vernon; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Mark, her husband of 65 years; her parents; a step-mother, Minnie; one brother, Dennis Kent; one sister, Delores Carson; and special sister, LaDema Kirkus.
