Franklin J. Luczak has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army after successfully completing the Army ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) program and graduating with a bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University, Brookings.
The new officer will be branched to a specific corps in the Army to serve on active duty or in the National Guard or Reserve.  The lieutenant will attend an officer basic course relating to his or her particular military occupational specialty/job.  Afterward, the officer will complete advanced training by attending basic officer leadership courses for career progression purposes.
He is the son of Frank and Angie Luczak of Letcher.
Luczak graduated in 2008 from Mitchell High School.

DECEMBER 28, 2012
OPENING
The Sanborn County Commissioners met on Tuesday, December 28, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. to conduct end of the year business with Chairman Senska presiding. Other members present were: Ebersdorfer, Ohlrogge and Larson. Absent was Blindauer. Motion by Ohlrogge, seconded by Larson, to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
HIGHWAY
Lee Goergen, Highway Superintendent/Weed Supervisor, reported on happenings in the county. Motion by Ohlrogge, seconded by Ebersdorfer, to transfer $480,000.00 from General Fund to Road & Bridge. Motion carried. Motion by Ohlrogge, seconded by Ebersdorfer, to change the deductible on vehicle insurance to $500 deductible comprehensive and $1,000 deductible collision. Motion carried.
CONTINGENCY TRANSFERS
Motion by Ohlrogge, seconded by Larson, to transfer the following amounts from contingency to the department named to balance for the year: Director of Equalization, $11,696.78; Ambulance, $6,333.04; and Drainage, $1,510.80. Motion carried. The board commended many departments on coming in within budget. Motion by Larson, seconded by Ebersdorfer, to supplement the Domestic Abuse for $201.79 for monies collected. Motion carried. Motion by Ebersdorfer, seconded by Ohlrogge, to supplement Ditch 21 for $9,717.64 for donations made. Motion carried.
4-H ADVISOR SECRETARY
After having a year plus with the new program, 4-H Leaders Janet Maeschen and Paula Linke, 4-H Advisor Audra Scheel, and Sherryl Rankin, Secretary, met with the board to discuss our new 4-H Program. The consensus was that things are working out favorably. Motion by Larson, seconded by Ebersdorfer, to raise Rankin to $9.00 an hour plus the raise for 2013. Motion carried.
2013 RAISE
Motion by Ebersdorfer, seconded by Ohlrogge, to give a three percent raise to county employees starting January 1, 2013. Motion carried.

The Prairie View Care Center Auxiliary met in the Prairie View Care Center on Monday, Jan. 7 at 9:30 a.m. Officers for the 2013 year are president Bernice Trudeau, vice president Ruth Ann Olinger, treasurer Colleen Swenson and secretary Dorthy Foos. The Auxiliary will assist the activity department in making table favors for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter as needed. Our membership drive starts this month if you would like to join contact any of the officers.
