County Committee Nominations: FSA is super worried that socially disadvantaged persons and beginning farmers and ranchers don’t know that they can serve on local county committees.  Socially disadvantaged persons include minorities and women.  You don’t have to be a white guy who has been farming a long time to serve on the committee, but nominees do need to be an eligible participant in at least one FSA program.
Nominations Still Needed. Nominations have been received for three of the five LAAs in Sanborn/Jerauld.  We still need nominees for  LAA 2 covering Floyd, Afton, Oneida, Benedict, Diana, and Ravenna townships and for LAA 4 covering the south half of Wessington Springs, Franklin, Woonsocket and Silver Creek townships plus all of Viola, Blaine and Twin Lake township. We’d be happy to get more than one nominee per LAA, but we need at least one from each.
Meeting Schedule: The committee is currently meeting four to five times per year. The current schedule is the second week of every third month, with scheduled meetings in March, June, September and December. Meetings usually last two to four hours and are held during the day. Committee work pays an hourly rate and mileage.
Nomination forms: get one at the FSA office or online at http://www.fsa.usda.gov/elections. Look for form FSA-669A. Nominations must be received or postmarked by Aug 1.
Have a safe Fourth of July!
