Archive for 2013

By Supt. Rod Weber & El. Principal Paula Lynch
The 2013-2014 school year will begin Wednesday, Aug. 21 with a 1:30 p.m. dismissal.  New or previously enrolled students may contact the administration offices with questions at 796-4431.  We would like to welcome our new staff to our school and community: fourth grade – Carrie Gutierrez, counselor – Chelsea Wenzel, and elementary aide – Carie Fry.
The school day:
School starts at 8:15 a.m. and dismisses at 3:15 p.m. each day. Serving for breakfast begins at 7:45 a.m. in the school’s lunchroom.
For the safety of the students, parents are asked not to double-park on the east side of the street in front of the armory when dropping off or picking up children.  Since children are not always careful when crossing the street and traffic can be busy at arrival and dismissal, we ask that everyone take extra care at these times of the day. The bus parking and student drop off/pick up zones will remain the same and are located on the west side of the street east of the elementary.  High school students are asked to park in the front of the new high school.
In an effort to continue communication between parents, community and school, a monthly newsletter will be published.  It will be mailed shortly before the beginning of each month.
We wish every student to have a fun and safe school year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact one of us at 796- 4431.  We are committed in making each child receive the best educational experience possible.

The South Dakota Telecommunications Association (SDTA) has awarded a $1,000 SDTA Memorial Scholarship to Zachary Effling of Artesian.
Effling is pursuing a degree in agricultural and biosystems engineering at South Dakota State University where he holds a 4.0 GPA.  He is the son of Leo and Wanda Effling of Artesian.
Three $1,000 SDTA Memorial Scholarships were awarded this year. The scholarship award, which is based upon academic performance, community involvement and responses to essay questions on the application, can be used at any post-secondary educational institution in South Dakota, including public and private universities, technical schools and community colleges.
The Memorial Scholarship program began with a single $300 scholarship in 1987.  Since the scholarship fund was established, nearly $57,000 has been awarded to help 78 young South Dakotans receive their post-secondary education.
