Seven members of Hope Circle met at 5:30 p.m. on May 12 at the United Methodist Church with Kim Hiemstra as hostess. Attending were Evelyn Mitzel, Vicki Linke, Vickie Hines, Barb Coulthard, JoAnn Schladweiler, Sue Larson and Kim.
Following the meal, Kim read devotions. Chairman Vicki Linke called the meeting to order. No minutes were read as recorder, Sue Larson, forgot her minutes book! JoAnn Schladweiler gave the W/ELCA financial report.  Sue Larson requested a petty cash fund for purchasing items for kits and quilts for Missions. It was approved. Quilting for Missions has gone to the first and third Thursday for assembling kits and tying quilts for the summer months. May 19 will be the next session at the United Methodist Church beginning at 10 a.m.
“Muffin Monday” was discussed. The project is going well and is being well received by the businesses around town.
May 15 was Pentecost Sunday. Communion was served and several new members were welcomed into the parish.
Vacation Bible camp will be June 13-16 at the Community Center. Hope Circle will provide the noon meal on Wednesday of that week.
All the pews from Bethany have been purchased. Remaining items intended to be kept will need to be moved to a storage unit before July 1, the date set for the beginning of demolition.
The Synodical Convention of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which includes all of South Dakota, will be held in Mitchell at First Lutheran Church on June 24-26. The church will donate small bottled waters and yogurt for the breakfast on Friday. Bishop David Zellmar will have the worship service on Friday morning. Silent auction items are encouraged. Vickie Hines has made a baby quilt to donate and all members are asked to bring a baby item next month to circle to fill a basket to go with it.
The Bible study lesson was entitled, “Mary and Elizabeth: Sisters Across the Generations,” based on Luke 1:26-56.
The June meeting will be held on June 9. Time and place to be announced.

The regular meeting of Unit 29 American Legion Auxiliary was held on May 2, at 6 p.m. in the solarium of the Prairie View Apartments. President Dawn Rassel led the opening ceremonies and the opening prayer.
The minutes of the April meeting and treasurer’s report was given and accepted. Membership was reported by Mary Kay Regynski at 69 members with one new junior member.
A newsletter from District 6 President Judy Winegar was read. The new District 6 officers elected at the spring meeting are: president, Linda Holmes, Mitchell; first vice-president, Deloris Royal, Iroquois; and second vice-president, Ellen Speck, Gann Valley. The Department Convention will be held in Watertown on June 16-19. Delegates and alternates to the State Convention were selected and the registration fee sent in.
Plans were made for the Memorial Day lunch. Sandwiches and bars will be furnished by members.
Following the closing ceremonies, President Dawn Rassel adjourned the meeting.
The next meeting will be June 7 at 6:30 p.m. Bingo helper for May is Carrie Howard, and she is furnishing bars. Cookies for the Prairie View Healthcare Community Bingo will be furnished by Judy Stenzel and Karen Krueger.

Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Letcher, will have a special Memorial Day Service at 10:30 a.m. in the Trinity Cemetery, Sunday, May 29. Storla Lutheran has their church service at 9 a.m. and the cemetery service will follow.
Come and join us in giving recognition and honor to those armed forces members who are or have served our country, as well as remembering all who have gone before us.
The cemetery is located on 243rd St., three miles east of Storla or one mile west of 397th Ave.
Everyone is welcome to come to church at Storla Lutheran and the Memorial Day service at the cemetery. If inclement weather exists, the program will be in the Storla church.
