Donald Case obit pic 41    Donald “Jack” Case, 92, of Mitchell, died Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.
Funeral services were Thursday, May 26, at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery with military rites.
Donald Case, son of Merle and Margaret (Schneider) Case, was born Jan. 31, 1924, in Letcher. He grew up and attended school in Letcher, graduating from Letcher High School. After his schooling, Jack entered the U.S. Army on Sept. 30, 1944. He served for two years in World War II and received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and moved to Illinois.
On May 25, 1946, Jack was united in marriage to Doris Hickman in Loomis. They moved back to South Dakota in 1951, where he farmed until they moved into Mitchell in 1965. Jack was a plumber for Sheesley Plumbing and Heating for 19 years, and after retiring from Sheesley’s, he worked for the City of Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Mitchell; five children, Warren (Karen) Case, Dwight (Jeanne) Case, Marion (Tina) Case, Janice (Dave) Williams and Jeannette (Jon) Roeder; 59 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.

Douglas Druse obit pic 41    Dr. Douglas A. Druse, 71, of Huron, died Thursday morning, May 26, 2016, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
His memorial service was Wednesday, June 1 at the Basham Funeral Home.  Burial was in St. Wilfrid Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday afternoon before the service.
Doug was born Oct. 5, 1944 in Mitchell, son of the late Stacy and Ethyl (Johnson) Druse. On June 15, 1968, he married Linda Parsons at Moose Lake, Minn.
Raised in Woonsocket, he completed schooling at Northern State University in Aberdeen, University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., and received his PhD in Education from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He started his career as a teacher in Racine, Wis., was a high school principal in Dell Rapids for 16 years, and was superintendent of schools in White Lake, Wis., where he retired in 2006 and moved back to South Dakota.
He is survived by his children, Alison (Druse) Muscsik, Huron; Stacy (Nikki) Druse, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren, and one great-grandson; his sisters-in-law, Michelle Druse, Mary Alice Moe, Dorothy Kiefer and Jean Huberty; his brother-in-law, John Roache, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda (Parsons) Druse; his sister, Lois (Druse) Nielson; his twin brother, David Druse; his brother, Jimmy Druse; brothers-in-law, Richard and Bob Parsons; and sisters-in-law, Helen (Parsons) Zentcowski and Pat (Parsons) Roache

Phyllis James, 92, of Mitchell, died Friday, May 27, 2016, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell.
Funeral services were Wednesday, June 1, at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell with burial in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, May 31 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Phyllis Jean James was born March 5, 1924, in Mitchell to Wayne and Anna (Fessler) Ferguson. She graduated from Fulton High School and received her teaching certificate from Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell. She taught school at Ravenna #3 in Sanborn County.
On Oct. 23, 1943, she married Irvin James. They farmed in Miner County until moving to Mitchell in 1984. Phyllis was a member of the Farwell Methodist Church and then First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, where she worked for 17 years at Parents Day Out and Vacation Bible School. She was also a 50-year member of the Beaver Extension Club in Miner County and the Miner County Farmers Union.
Phyllis is survived by her three children, Sharon (Don) Bowman of Fedora, Nancy (Mike) Tingle of Mt. Vernon and Leland (Linda) James of Mitchell; one sister, Audrey (Joe) Tobin of Racine, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; 10 great great-grandchildren; two step great great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Doris James of Pipestone, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin; and a son, Roger.
