Elvera Oehlerking

Avilla, Ind.

grabenstein   Elvera Grabenstein Oehlerking, 92, of Avilla, Ind., and formerly of Letcher, died Friday, March 4, 2016, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville, Ind.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the Letcher Community Church in Letcher. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Letcher. Will Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Elvera was born April 29, 1923, in Dakota City, Neb., to Otto and Sara (Goodwin) Oehlerking. She married Albert Grabenstein and to this union six children were born.
Elvera retired in the middle 1980s from factory work in Plymouth, Mich., and currently resided at the Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla, Ind., where she enjoyed playing cards, making crafts and playing bingo.
Grateful for sharing her life are her children, Barry Grabenstein of Texas, Deanna Sieler of Michigan, Janele Tolley of Texas, and Karda Shoults of Indiana; brothers, Milton Oehlerking and Jerry Oehlerking of South Dakota; sisters, Nadine VanLaecken of Texas, and Naomi McCormick of Pennsylvania. Elvera was blessed with many loving family members and grandchildren into the fifth generation.
She was preceded in by her parents; two sons, Jody and Doyle; brothers, Lloyd and Otto; and grandson, Keith.

Evelyn Mikkelson

Aberdeen

Evelyn obit pic 29    Evelyn “Eva” L. Mikkelson, 98, of Aberdeen, passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, at her residence.
Her funeral service was Saturday, March 5 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Aberdeen with Pastor Tyer Poppen officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. Visitation with a 7 p.m. prayer service was Friday, March 4 at the Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory in Aberdeen and continued one hour before the service at the church.
Evelyn “Eva” Leana (King) Mikkelson was born April 14, 1917, to Carl and Marie (Buckholz) King in Hanson County. She attended Fulton Public School and graduated in 1936.
Eva was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Mikkelson in 1937 and the couple made their home in Letcher for seven years before moving to Aberdeen in 1961. Eva worked for five years at St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell and nine years at St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen before joining the staff of Dakota Midland Hospital in Aberdeen, where she was employed an additional 18 years before retiring.
Eva was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Women of the Moose, both in Aberdeen. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, bowling, and going to different casinos.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Kenneth C. (Beverly) Mikkelson of Mitchell, Marvin D. Mikkelson of Aberdeen, and Ronald G. (Kim) Mikkelson of Sioux Falls; her daughters, Janice J. (Richard) Smith of Alexandria and Judy M. (Russell) Cross of Mt. Vernon; 18 grandchildren; 87 great- and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Wibben of Ipswich and Ruth Lassegard of Ames, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; her brothers, John, Samuel, Bill and Warren King; sisters, Bessie Drown and Mabel King; father and mother-in-law, Peter W. and Laura Mikkelson; brother-in-law, Jim Drown; sisters-in-law, Tillie King, Dorothy King and Orma King; and daughter-in-law, Marlene Mikkelson.

The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks Band and Winterguard will present a concert/performance on Monday, March 14 at 7 p.m. at Woonsocket School.
The event will include band concert music, percussion ensembles, and Winterguard.  Prior to the concert (6 p.m.), as well as following the concert, the band parents invite you to a dessert/ice cream social, with free will donation proceeds going to the Rob Baruth Fund.
