Michael Norman Kane, 79, of Des Moines, Iowa, died April 11, 2017, at Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colo.
Funeral services were Wednesday, April 19, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Des Moines. Visitation was Tuesday, April 18, at Grandview Park Chapel, also in Des Moines.
Mike was born in Mitchell to Leonard and Elva (Dyer) Kane on July 29, 1937. He lived on a farm near Letcher and attended country school and Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell.
He married Darlene Olson on June 2, 1955, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, and they had five boys. The couple lived in Mitchell for the first few years, where Mike worked at Randall’s as a meat cutter. They then moved to Des Moines, Iowa, and Mike worked in sales until 1979, when he formed Kane Manufacturing. He sold his products across the United States and in 40 countries. He was awarded Iowa Exporter of the Year and Small Business Exporter of the Year in 1991.
Mike married Donna Goodman on May 4, 1985, in Nashville, Ga.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Club and Sons of the Legion. Mike loved to fish and hunt pheasants in South Dakota, and travel all over the world.
Mike is survived by his wife, Donna of Des Moines; sons, Kraig (Teri) Kane of Altoona, Iowa,  Klay (Shashi) Kane and Mick (Chris) Kane, all of Ankeny, Iowa, and Todd (Edie) Kane of Phoenix, Ariz.; step-sons, Chris (Caroline) Goodman of Tifton, Ga., John Goodman of Georgia, and Russel (Carra) Goodman of Homerville, Ga.; sisters, Connie (Dick) Lidman of Riverside, Calif., and Karen (Garry) Krantz of Mitchell; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; nine step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Elaine Kane; and son, Kim Kane.

    Velma R. Schabot, 80, of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully with family present on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at her home.
The Funeral Mass was Wednesday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Wilfrid Catholic Church at Woonsocket, with Fr. Jim Friedrich officiating. Visitation was at Basham Funeral Home in Woonsocket on Tuesday, April 18, from 5-7 p.m., with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial was at St. Wilfrid Catholic Cemetery.
Velma was born May 25, 1936, to Eaner and Esther (Farrington) Krog, along with her twin sister, Verna.  She grew up on the farm west of Gann Valley with her 11 siblings and graduated from Wessington Springs High School. Following graduation, Velma moved to Woonsocket to work for her cousin, Dr. H. G. Krog Veterinary Service.
In Woonsocket, she met and married Earl Schabot on Sept. 28, 1954.  To this union five children were born, Randy (Mary) Schabot of Woonsocket, Gloria Vetter, of Woonsocket, Ron (Julie) Schabot of Rozet, Wyo., Esther (Dave) Buck of Mitchell, and Patti (Carey) Tobin of Mitchell.
Velma worked various jobs in Woonsocket, including Parsons Produce, Steichen Chevrolet, and many years at Sanborn County Bank and First National Bank. She was a member of St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket.
Velma enjoyed her yard work, playing cards, reading, cooking for her family, and spending time with long-time special friend, Ken Anderson.
Velma is survived by her children; her 12 grandchildren, step grandchildren, and  great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret, Verna and Jean; one brother, Lowell; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Sparky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents; in-laws, Nick and Louise Schabot; son-in-law, John Vetter; three sisters and five brothers.
