Riley Schmiedt of Woonsocket placed fifth in his weight class at the State Wrestling Tournament, held Feb. 24 and 25 in the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
Schmiedt, a senior, wrestles with the Wessington Springs-Woonsocket Blackhawk team and was one of just two Blackhawk wrestlers to earn a trip to the tournament. His cousin, Bailey Schmiedt, a junior also qualified for state.
Riley wrestles at 285 lbs. and is the son of Adam and Jody Schmiedt of Woonsocket.
