In a game with a slow start, the Blackhawks picked up steam and ended their Homecoming Week with a 35-12 win over the Tripp-

Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian (TDA/ACDC) Thunderhawks on Friday, Sept. 22.

The scoring started with a 20-yard pass from Holden Havlik to Ryder Michalek for WWSSC’s first six points. The two-point conversion failed and the score at the end of the first quarter was 6-0, Blackhawks.

In the second quarter, TDA/ACDC answered back with their only touchdown in the first half of the game and tied the score at 6-6. The Blackhawks scored once more that half with a quarterback keeper by Havlik in a one-yard run. Havlik took it in himself for the extra points, and the Blackhawks were up 14-6 at halftime.

WWSSC was the only team to score in the third quarter when Havlik found Michalek with a 47-yard pass for six points, but the attempt at two extra points failed, and the Blackhawks went into the fourth quarter with a 20-6 lead.

After TDA/ACDC scored their second and final touchdown of the game in the fourth, WWSSC answered with another touchdown by a short run from Havlik, and a pass from Havlik to Bryce Larson for the extra points brought the score to 28-12. The final six points of the game were scored by Blake Larson with a 35-yard catch from Havlik, and Brett Miller had the successful PAT to end the game with a 35-12 Blackhawks win.

The Blackhawks now have a record of 5-0 for the season as they head to Mobridge this Friday night to play against the Mobridge-Pollock Tigers. The Tigers have a record of 2-3, and it is their Homecoming game. The game will be available on the Mobridge-Pollock LiveTicket channel starting at 7 p.m.

Last Friday night, Sept. 15, the WWSSC Blackhawks were on the road in Miller to compete against the Miller/Highmore-

Harrold Rustlers. The Blackhawks started scoring early in the first quarter and just kept pushing their way to a 41-0 victory.

Blake Larson scored the first touchdown for the Blackhawks when he caught an eight-yard pass from Holden Havlik. The two-point conversion failed. Larson then threw a 33-yard pass to hit Brock Krueger for the Blackhawks’ next six points, and Tyson Eddy worked his magic to get the extra two points with a short run, which brought the score to 14-0. Larson just kept working for the Blackhawks as he scored another touchdown, catching a two-yard pass from Havlik. After Brett Miller kicked the extra point for that run, the score at the end of the first quarter was 21-0, Blackhawks.

In the second quarter, Havlik found Krueger with a 52-yard pass for another six points, and Miller added the successful PAT to make the score 28-0, Blackhawks. Later that same quarter, Bryce Larson scored with a three-yard pass tossed to him by Havlik. Miller’s kick failed after that touchdown, so the score was 34-0 going into the third quarter.

Once the third quarter started, things slowed down a bit for the Blackhawks. However, before it was over, Havlik ran 40 yards in for the last six points for WWSSC. With Miller’s PAT added, the score was 41-0 from that point until the end for the Blackhawks win.

The WWSSC Blackhawks rise to 4-0 on the year as they go into their homecoming week with the homecoming game tomorrow night (Friday) against the Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunderhawks in Wessington Springs at 7 p.m.

With a “Cartoons” theme this year, Blackhawks Homecoming Week is upon us, and the festivities have started. Everything started on Monday with Spirit Week days designated in Woonsocket as Pajama Day and Sanborn Central had “Monsters University” Wear Your Favorite College Gear Day. Coronation was on Monday night at both schools with Cooper Goldammer and Kara Wormstadt being crowned as royalty at Sanborn Central and Kam Ochsner and Evan VonEye receiving the honor at Woonsocket.

The Blackhawks volleyball girls had their only game of the week on Tuesday night against Wolsey-Wessington at Sanborn Central, and the homecoming football game will be on Friday night at Wessington Springs against the TDA/AC/DC Thunderhawks. Results from those games along with all other activities and designated spirit days will be in next week’s issue of the Sanborn Weekly Journal.

There will be two extra color pages in next week’s issue for Homecoming photos. If you would like to help sponsor those pages, please contact Carrie Howard at (605) 796-4221 or (605) 770-8997.
