Woonsocket

John JacksonJohn P. Jackson, 49, of rural Woonsocket died Friday morning April 25, 2014 at his residence.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 28 at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church, Woonsocket, with Fr. Jim Friedrich officiating. A rosary and wake service were held Monday at the church.
John was born on April 30, 1964, in Wessington Springs to Darrel and MaryAnn Jackson into a family that would eventually grow into 12 children.
After graduating from Wessington Springs High School in 1981, John attended the University of Minnesota in Mankato, Minn., for computer science. After a year and a half at the University of Minnesota, John came back to work with his brothers on the farm.  He devoted the rest of his life to the farm.
John was known as the guy who liked his Cenex food, the serious poker player who occasionally let others win, teaching his many nieces and nephews how to play checkers, how to love the land, and how to play Nintendo, and as a loyal brother and friend who lived his faith in humble service, quiet strength and hidden acts of love.
John enjoyed fishing at the Jim River, tending to newborn calves, watching Westerns and driving his payloader in reverse to annoy people with the beeper. John was never in a rush, always good for a slow drive on a gravel road.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Jackson; his brothers, Steve, Kelly, Tim and wife, Laura, and Travis and wife, Karen; sisters, Mary, and husband, Bill, Sandy and husband, Mike,  Lori and husband, Bob, Linda and husband, Tim, and Michelle and husband, Jeff; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Darrel Jackson; sister, Rita Kubal; brother, Mark; and niece, Jennifer.

Donald Keeton

Wessington Springs

Donald Keeton, 91, of Wessington Springs, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in Weskota Manor/Avera Health in Wessington Springs.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26 at United Church of Christ in Wessington Springs. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Wessington Springs American Legion and South Dakota National Honor Guard. A prayer service was held Friday, April 25 at Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs.
Donald Eugene Keeton was born on Oct. 27, 1922 to Tony and Maude (Martin) Keeton in Jerauld County.
On Oct. 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Viola (Blackie) Walker at the United Methodist Church in Wessington Springs. To this union three children were born, Larry, Lou Ann and Leola.
Don served in the United States Army from 1943-1946 during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and other honors for his service.
He owned the Motor Clinic with Herb Keeton and Howard Frank and later owned Springs Salvage. He was a loyal fan of all sports and followed the activities of his children and grandchildren. He will be missed in the stands.
Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and going out to supper and gambling at the casino with his wife of 65 years.
Don is survived by his wife, Viola; his children, Larry (Patricia) Keeton and Lou Ann Fischer, all of Wessington Springs; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herb and Lester; one sister, Lucille; and an infant daughter, Leola.

Oliver O. Zimmerman

Forestburg

Oliver O. Zimmerman, age 89, of Forestburg, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were Monday, April 28 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Huron. Visitation with family present was at the Welter Funeral Home on Monday. Visit www.welterfuneralhome.com.
Oliver Zimmerman, the son of Otto and Lillie (Maurer) Zimmerman, was born on Feb. 25, 1925 on the family farm near Forestburg. He attended school at the Maurer Country School. Oliver worked for Huron Steel Construction for a year before returning to the family farm. Oliver farmed for many years and retired in 2010, but he never completely gave up farming.
Oliver married Grace Hay on Oct. 19, 1949 at the United Methodist Church in Huron. The couple made their home on the family farm near Forestburg.
Oliver was a member of the Huron Coin and Stamp Collecting Club for 20 years. He enjoyed going on summer vacation and fossil hunting with his family and friends. Oliver drove the shuttle bus for the South Dakota State Fair for 46 years and was awarded a plaque from the Fair in recognition of his many years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Grace of Forestburg; his son, Douglas (Linda) Zimmerman of Huron; daughter, Connie (Todd) Paye of Cavour;  three grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; three step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Baysinger of Huron and Violet (Barry) Bell of Woonsocket; sister-in-law, Kathy Zimmerman;  cousins, Delbert and Carl Pearson; and many nieces and nephews.
Oliver was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sandra Zimmerman in 1979; a grandson, Dylan Paye; brother, Arnold Zimmerman;   step-grandson, Alex Pettit; and brother-in-law, Harold (Lug) Baysinger.
