Donald Keeton, 91, of Wessington Springs, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in Weskota Manor/Avera Health in Wessington Springs.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26 at United Church of Christ in Wessington Springs. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Wessington Springs American Legion and South Dakota National Honor Guard. A prayer service was held Friday, April 25 at Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs.
Donald Eugene Keeton was born on Oct. 27, 1922 to Tony and Maude (Martin) Keeton in Jerauld County.
On Oct. 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Viola (Blackie) Walker at the United Methodist Church in Wessington Springs. To this union three children were born, Larry, Lou Ann and Leola.
Don served in the United States Army from 1943-1946 during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and other honors for his service.
He owned the Motor Clinic with Herb Keeton and Howard Frank and later owned Springs Salvage. He was a loyal fan of all sports and followed the activities of his children and grandchildren. He will be missed in the stands.
Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and going out to supper and gambling at the casino with his wife of 65 years.
Don is survived by his wife, Viola; his children, Larry (Patricia) Keeton and Lou Ann Fischer, all of Wessington Springs; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herb and Lester; one sister, Lucille; and an infant daughter, Leola.
