If your Private Applicator’s Certification expired Dec. 31, 2018, you can re-certify or get your initial certification by one of the two following methods:

1) Attend one of the re-certification sessions listed below.

2) Complete the exam on-line at https://apps.sd.gov/doa/pwt/.

Either one of these methods will renew your certification through Dec. 31, 2023.

Sessions around the area are as follows:

•Jan. 14, Mitchell, MTI Technology Center Amphitheatre 1800 E. Spruce St., 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.;

•Feb. 2, Plankinton, Aurora County 4-H Building 1302 E. 1st. St., 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.;

•March 4, Madison, 4-H Center 1000 South Egan Ave., 1-4 p.m.;

•March 11, Wessington Springs, Jerauld County 4-H Building 604 2nd St. NE, 1–4 p.m. CST.

To attend a certification session:

•No pre-registration necessary, simply arrive at session site 15 minutes early;

•You will need to provide a valid Government issued photo ID to complete the training;

•Please bring along your pesticide license with your barcode number and/or the renewal postcard you may have received in the mail.

With some military experience in his past and his call to civil duty in mind, Josh Starzman decided to apply to become the newest member of the Sanborn County Sheriff’s department. He was hired and officially started on Dec. 1 as the new deputy sheriff.

On Sunday, Dec. 2, Darold Bitterman of Mitchell and his assistant Mike Piehl came to the Sanborn County 4-H Building in Forestburg to present a Trapping Workshop. There were 32 people in attendance to learn about trapping different types of animals and how to set up traps. The men also discussed and demonstrated the best way to skin an animal. 

The Sanborn County Extension Office is planning on having the same workshop on Sunday, Dec. 9, starting at 1 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Forestburg. It is open to all adults and youth who are interested in trapping and learning how to skin animals correctly and safely.
