Artesian area First Lutheran Quilters met at the church on Tuesday afternoon, May 19th for an afternoon of quilting and fellowship.  Those attending were: Deanna Dean, Jerolyn Dean, Terry Moore, Wanda Effling, Jean Wormstadt and Judy Wormstadt. Gwen Effling joined the group after she got off work at the bank.

The gals worked hard on the Lutheran Outdoors quilt and a lot of progress was made.  Terry and Wanda took dyed pillowcases and pieced them together to make backs for five baby quilt tops that Deanna had sewn. Judy Wormstadt led devotions and the Lord’s Prayer with the group, and cookies and coffee were enjoyed.

An added note from the circle meeting on May 29, Wanda Effling gave each gal a beautiful hankie filled with potpourri as a special gift from her mom’s collection of hankies and Wanda had a story and devotions to add.

MADISON, June 8 – Dakota State University in Madison held their spring commencement ceremony Saturday, May 5, at 10:30 a.m. in the DSU Fieldhouse. Of the 347 graduates, 41 received associate degrees, 232 earned baccalaureate degrees, 68 received master’s degrees and six earned doctoral degrees.

Honors distinctions include: Summa Cum Laude (3.9 Grade Point Average or higher); Magna Cum Laude (3.7 to 3.9 GPA); and Cum Laude (3.5 to 3.7 GPA). 

Jessica  (Schmit) Dawson of Howard, formerly of Artesian, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education, with Summa Cum Laude honors.
