Artesian

Six ambitious gals met on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 6:30 p.m. at Artesian First Lutheran to start the New Year off with some quilting fun. Seven quilts were tied and the edges pinned for finishing, and blocks were arranged for five quilt tops.

Devotions from the book “What I learned from God While Quilting” and the Lord’s Prayer were shared. Terry Moore, Judi Larson and Judy Wormstadt brought goodies for lunch. Others attending were: Wanda Effling, Deanna Dean and Gwen Effling.

Jane Marten provided the group with 50 sheets and numerous pillowcases that she had dyed for use as quilt backs and blocks. Jerolyn Dean stopped by the church and took fabric home to cut blocks and sew quilt tops. It was a very productive evening, and the fellowship was great.

Anyone is welcome to attend. Just let one of the gals know if you would be interested in attending.

The WWTS Christmas program, “The Greatest Gift,” was presented by Artesian area youth at the Artesian First Lutheran Church on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m.
Jesus’ birthday was also celebrated.Lunch was provided and served by the First Lutheran ladies following the program. There was a large crowd in attendance. WWTS will meet again on Jan. 10 following their Christmas break.

Artesian First Lutheran and area women met at the church on Tuesday evening, Nov. 28. The business meeting was held prior to Bible study and quilting. Treasurer Deanna Dean reported on the results of the Harvest Fest Bazaar table and the Thankoffering which was collected in church on Nov. 19.
The WWTS Christmas program will be held at the church on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m. Lunch will be served following the program. Deanna Dean, Shirley Olson and Jerolyn Dean will be organizing the lunch. All are invited to attend the program and lunch. The children and their leaders put a great deal of effort into the program and appreciate everyone’s support.
Many have donated food items and County Fair coupons. The turkeys purchased with the coupons and non-perishable foods are used to fill the Sanborn County Christmas food baskets. The group is grateful for everyone’s generosity.
The ladies have also been collecting items for the Prairie View Healthcare Center. They plan to deliver those items on Dec. 12, and sing a few familiar Christmas carols for the residents. More ladies are needed to help with the singing. Joyce Olson will accompany the group on the piano.
Christmas holiday projects were discussed, and some of the organizations the group plans to help in December include the Angel Tree, Abbott House, Mitchell Area Safehouse and Feeding South Dakota.
Bible study was led by Judy Wormstadt, using the Gather magazine study titled “Joy to the World.” The lesson was a reflection on the many joys of Christmas. Jerolyn Dean served lunch.
The latter part of the evening was spent working on quilts that will be given as Christmas gifts to local charitable organizations who have a need for quilts.
