Jessica Schmit of Artesian has been selected as the recipient of the 2017 Florence Krieger Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
This scholarship is awarded in memory of Florence Krieger, a long-time Rapid City mathematics teacher and intended to encourage and help students entering the field of education in the areas of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics).
Jessica is a graduate of Sanborn Central High School and a student at Dakota State University in Madison. She is the daughter of Robert and Brenda Schmit of Artesian.

Senior at Sanborn Central School, Garrett Dean, was honored at the worship service, Sunday, May 7,  at Artesian First Lutheran Church.
The congregation, under the leadership of Pastor Josh Knudsen, gave Dean a special blessing, and Deanna Dean presented him with a fleece tied blanket that the church ladies had made for him. Everyone enjoyed lunch following the church service.

Bible study and quilting were held at the Artesian First Lutheran Church on Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. Those present were Judy Wormstadt, Jess Ludvik, Joyce Olson, Wanda Effling, Jean Wormstadt, Terri Moore, Deanna Dean, Vickie Scott, Judi Larson and Jerolyn Dean.
Judy Wormstadt led Bible study titled “Take Me to Your Leader” based on Psalm 23:1.   Jerolyn Dean served lunch following the Table Prayer.
A short business meeting was held. Treasurer Deanna Dean reported the bake sale held in conjunction with the CIA Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 15, was a big success. Thank you to all those who contributed baked goods.   We also thank all those who purchased baked items and the quilts that were sold. We are very appreciative for the community’s generous support of this fund raising event.  The funds raised are used to support the many mission projects of the women’s group.      Judi Larson has received Thrivent money that was used to purchase several Sparks Study Bibles.
The business meeting adjourned and the ladies spent the rest of the evening working on quilts. Several of the gals brought their sewing machines and work is progressing on the special quilt for the Lutheran Outdoors Quilt Auction held later this fall in Sioux Falls. Deanna Dean applied for and received Thrivent action money that was used to purchase fabric for this special quilt.
