The Artesian American Legion Auxiliary members judged the Sanborn Central students Americanism poems and essays. The first place winners are sent to the American Legion Auxiliary District 6 to be judged.
The winners of the Americanism essays in the following classes are:
Class 1 – first place: Caleb Kneen, second place: Randy Bitterman, third place: Peyton Uecker;
Class 2 – first place: Ayla Moe, second place: Toby Kneen, third place: Jessie Krueger;
Class 3 – first place: Brighton Hitchock, second place: Shania Cornelius, third place: Teya Moody;
Class 4 – first place: Katie Schmidt, second place: Abby Vermuelen, third place: Samantha Dean;
Class 5 – first place: Quentin Schmidt, second place: Maddie Vermeulen, third place: Catherine Bechen.
The winners of the poems are:
Class 1 – first place: Mackenzie Zens, second place: Clay Moody, third place: Chayda Johnson;
Class 2 – first place: Alex Schelske, second place: Randy Bitterman, third place: Peyton Uecker;
Class 3 – first place: Joslyn Swearingen, second place: Andrew Zens, third place: Kara Wormstadt;
Class 5 – first place: Tapanga Howe.

The Artesian First Lutheran Quilters met on Tuesday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the church with nine quilters present.
Those attending were Joyce Olson, Judi Larson, Jean Wormstadt, Deanna Dean, Terry Moore, Jane Martin, Ayla Moe, Jaslyn Swearingen and Judy Wormstadt.
The main focus for the evening was cutting out the fabric pieces for the Lutheran Outdoors quilt that the group is making.  Jaslyn and Ayla worked on their baby quilts and arranged blocks for a large quilt and the group tied another quilt. Judy Wormstadt led devotions titled “His Hands” and shared prayer mix with everyone.  The gals enjoyed lunch and fellowship together.

The CorTrust Bank ALM (Artesian, Letcher, Mt. Vernon) Community Foundation Board of Directors met recently to award its semi-annual grants.
The following distributions were approved: Town of Artesian for $500 for campground improvements, and the Town ‘N Kountry Kids Blue Group 4-H Club for $3,000 to be used towards pea rock and curbing edge around the new playground equipment behind the Letcher Community Center.
The CorTrust Bank ALM Community Foundation is an organization formed to attract and distribute gifts of capital for community betterment. It was initially funded by CorTrust Bank with a match from the South Dakota Community Foundation for the benefit of the Artesian, Letcher and Mt. Vernon communities. The first grants were awarded in August 2000.
