Siegfried Franz Georg Noack, 92, of Mitchell (formerly of Artesian), passed away on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab.

His celebration of life service was held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 18, at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a prayer service.

Siegfried Franz Georg Noack was born June 7, 1927, in Artesian to Arthur Emil Max Noack and Elisabeth (Elise) Johanna (Bruske) Noack. He grew up in rural Artesian and attended country school. Siegfried served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion. Siegfried met Gladys Marie Kludt through mutual friends. Siegfried and Gladys were married on May 24, 1957. They began their 61 years of marriage on a farm near Artesian where they raised their four children. Together, they raised cattle, hogs, chickens, and grew crops. Siegfried loved the farm, raising cattle and especially loved playing in the dirt. After 56 years of building a life together on the farm, Siegfried and Gladys retired from farm life and moved to Mitchell. Siegfried spent his retirement years playing cards, watching the contractors build houses around them and making secret trips to the Dairy Queen for a treat.

Siegfried is survived by four children, Wayne (Darcy) Noack of Miller, Cindy (Terry) Torgerson of Mitchell, Keith (Janice) Noack of Vacaville, Calif., and Janet (Kurt) Dickson of Cavour; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Noack) Lemon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys, on Feb. 20, 2019; sister, Margaret Kopplin; brother, Arnold Noack; and sister, Sieglinde Burnup.

Deborah Cornell

Nevada, Mo.

Deborah Kay Cornell, 62, of Nevada, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, at Nevada Regional Medical Center.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Peter Savidge officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Nevada. Rosary was held Monday, Nov. 18, with a visitation that followed at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Deb was born on Aug. 31, 1957, in Mitchell to Wilfred A. and Dolores Marie (Koch) Wermers. She grew up in Mt. Vernon and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1975. 

On Oct. 7, 1977, she married Peter W. Cornell in Mt. Vernon. She lived in Plankinton for nine years and had lived in Vernon County for the past 14 years.

Deb belonged to a quilting club and enjoyed sewing, doing crafts and making things for her children and grandchildren. She loved being with her family and traveling with her husband.

She is survived by her husband, Pete; three children, Justin (Jennifer) Cornell of Platte, Jeremy Cornell of Sheldon, Mo., and Jessica (Clarence) Meadows of Tulsa, Okla.; her mother, Delores Wermers of Woonsocket; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Dave (Pat) Wermers of Sioux Falls, Deanna Jensen of Woonsocket  and Susie (Mike) Sejnoha of Mitchell.

Jackie Johnson

Wessington Springs

Jacklyn Kay Johnson, 56, made the journey to her heavenly home on Saturday morning, Nov. 9, 2019, surrounded by family. She passed away in her home after a courageous 10-year battle with cancer.

Jackie’s Celebration of Life service was held Wednesday, Nov. 13 at the United Methodist Church in Wessington Springs. The burial service followed at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation and prayer services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019 at the United Methodist Church.

Jackie was born on May 4, 1963, in Wessington Springs to Paul and Karen (Simmons) Messmer. She was raised on the family farm. Jackie attended Schubert Country School through the seventh grade and finished her high school education at Wessington Springs High School. She attended Nettleton College of Business. She returned home to Wessington Springs where she worked at Bridgman and Adel Law Office and American Bank & Trust. Jackie married Lee Johnson in 1982. They raised their family in Wessington Springs.

Jackie loved watching and supporting her three children, whether it was in the gym or throughout the community. She also enjoyed being able to support her nephews and niece in their activities. Most recently, her pride and joy became her five grandchildren. Over the years, Jackie was involved in many groups in the community including Natural High, 4-H, Community Choir, P.E.O., Eastern Star, Fellowship, and the Wessington Springs Development Project to name a few. She loved music, whether she was watching or performing. Jackie was an inspiration to many. Her incredible hope and faith throughout her battles were an example for all.

Jackie is survived by her husband of 37 years, Lee; their three children, Lacey (Bobby) Babich, Laura (Jamie) Parish, and Andy (Shelby) Johnson of Woonsocket; their five grandchildren; her mother, Karen (Simmons) Messmer; her brother, Jeff (Tricia) Messmer; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Messmer; her brother, Allan Messmer; and her grandparents.
