Obituaries

Bonnie G. Nielson, 92, of Huron, passed away on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019 at Huron Regional Medical Center.

A private graveside service was held at Riverside Cemetery in Huron.

Bonnie was born on July 27, 1927 in Geddes, S.D. to Niel A. and Agnes C. (Cornelius) Nielsen. She graduated from high school in Woonsocket. She later graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing in 1949. Bonnie worked as a registered nurse at St. John’s Hospital in Huron from 1949-1951, Schoitz Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa from 1951-1963 and St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from 1963 until her retirement in 1984. She remained in Cedar Rapids until 2012 when she relocated to Huron. Bonnie enjoyed reading and traveling. She was a longtime member of the South Dakota and Iowa Nursing Associations from 1949-2012.

Bonnie is survived by one brother, Eudale (Helen) Nielsen of Huron; one sister, Madonna Kentro of San Diego, Calif.; one nephew and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Faith Slay Fox; and one nephew, Steven Kentro. 

Velma Peters

Mitchell

Velma Peters, 88, of Mitchell, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at Firesteel Health Care in Mitchell.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation was one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian.

Velma was born Aug. 30, 1930 to Clarence and Martha (Smith) Page at a farm northeast of Artesian. She attended country school and Artesian School.

Velma married Fred Peters in 1948 in Pipestone, Minn. She worked at Mitchell Produce, Armour Creamery and Firesteel Health Care.

Velma is survived by three daughters and a son, Norma Peters, Norman (Jamien) Peters, Judy (Don) Robertson and Darla (Alan) Dalrymple; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Shirley Caylor.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Maynard, Marvin and Lyle Page; son, Wayne Peters; and granddaughter, Tammy Hylland.

Marie Ellingson

Marie Ellingson, 85, formerly of Wessington Springs, passed away Aug. 16, 2019, from cancer.

Services were held at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Maple Valley, Wash. on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
