Boyd Van Winkle, 74, of Huron, passed away, Monday, July 22, 2019, at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron.

His funeral service was on Friday, July 26, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors by Huron Veteran’s Council. Visitation with family present and prayer service were held on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; a visitation was also held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Boyd G. Van Winkle was born on Sept. 30, 1944 in Huron to parents Glen B. and Corinne Mae (Crowell) Van Winkle. He attended Huron High School graduating with the class of 1963. Boyd joined the United States Army, serving honorably from 1963 to 1967. He graduated from Huron College in 1971.

Boyd married Elaine F. Hohbach on Sept. 6, 1969, at American Lutheran Church in Huron. Boyd worked for the City of Huron Water Treatment Plant for 24 years.

Boyd enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was an animal lover who enjoyed feeding birds and squirrels and spoiling the family dogs. Boyd was a member of the American Legion and First United Methodist Church.

Grateful for having shared his life were his wife, Elaine of Huron; children, Steve (Ann) Van Winkle of Huron and Kim Van Winkle (Landis Armstrong) of Austin, Texas; two granddaughters; brother-in-law, Stephen Hohbach of Woonsocket; sister, Konnie (Kevin) Baarts of Huron; two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glen, in 1961; his mother, Corinne, in 1982; and his step-father, Bennie Foster, in 2001.

Linda Orth

Huron

Linda Orth, 72, of Huron, passed away at her residence at Hamilton House on Sunday, July 28, 2019.

Her funeral service will be on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, at 12:30 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with visitation with refreshments from 11 a.m. to the time of the service. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in Alpena.

Linda was born on April 2, 1947 to Albert and Luella (Ammon) Orth. Linda attended school in Alpena and Wessington Springs. She then lived at home and helped on the farm. Linda lived in Watertown and at the Hamilton House in Huron. She also resided at the Courtyard Apartments in Huron for a time.

Linda enjoyed cleaning and riding bike earlier in her life when her health permitted. She also loved watering plants for her mom, keeping the water tanks full for the livestock and feeding her cats. She helped her parents out tremendously as they aged. In more recent years, she enjoyed traveling, doing crafts and being with her friends. Mickey and Minnie Mouse were favorites of hers.

Linda is survived by her father, Albert Orth of Huron; two brothers, Gary (Kathy) Orth and Bruce Orth of Alpena; one sister, Nancy (Dean) Slostad of Watertown; many nieces and nephews including Jodi (Gerrad) Doering of Woonsocket; many great-nieces and nephews; and her aunt, Marion Myers of White Lake.

She was preceded in death by her mother, her maternal and paternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to Huron Center for Independence in memory of Linda. Those who wish to honor Linda are encouraged to wear apparel or carry Mickey and/or Minnie Mouse items.

Calvin Hinrichs

Wessington Springs

Calvin Hinrichs, 68, of Wessington Springs, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Doyle officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation resumed Thursday morning one hour prior to the service.

Calvin Jay Hinrichs was born April 30, 1951, in Wessington Springs to Matthew and Anna Ione (Faulhaber) Hinrichs. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lane. He grew up on a farm in Blaine Township, rural Jerauld County, and graduated from Lane High School in 1969.

Calvin was united in marriage to Marilyn Hohn on Aug. 6, 1971, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. They made their home in Wessington Springs. Calvin enjoyed a career driving semi truck and drove over 28 years with no reportable accidents. He worked for Caffee Trucking and Bob Winter Trucking hauling cattle, and he hauled grain for Stan’s Feed and Grain. Currently, he worked at J&M Specialties Parts Store.

Some knew Calvin as “Fishy” or “CJ.” He was an interesting person with a twinkle in his eye. Calvin had a variety of interests that included fishing, playing cards, gardening and geology. He always enjoyed a challenge and could fix most anything electrical or mechanical. Some of his favorite times were spent with his granddaughters, Friday night drives for dinner with Marilyn and time spent with his coffee/card group.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 48 years, Marilyn, of Wessington Springs; son, Jody (Susanne) Hinrichs of Brainerd, Minn.; three granddaughters; four brothers, Tom (Laurel) Hinrichs, Allen (Carmen) Hinrichs, David Hinrichs and Mike Hinrichs; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Calla Jean Hinrichs.
