Dolores Stach

Mitchell

Dolores Stach, 91, of Mitchell and formerly of Letcher, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, May 25, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial was in the Butler Cemetery at Letcher. Visitation with a scripture service was held Friday, May 24, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Dolores Anne Stach was born Nov. 4, 1927, to Allen and Elizabeth (Lutzweiler) Holeton in Philadelphia, Pa. She graduated from Ben-Salem High School in 1945, and then earned her teaching degree in English in 1949 from Westchester State Teachers College. Her first teaching job brought her to Letcher, where she met and married Steve P. Stach on Dec. 29, 1949. To this union, eight children were born. Dolores and Steve owned and operated the Stach Grocery Store in Letcher until retiring in 1988.

Dolores was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church and Altar Society in Letcher and, later in life, was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. She was a charter and lifelong member of the Letcher American Legion Auxiliary and was active in the Letcher Study Club. She was an avid reader, enjoyed ice-skating, Jersey Shore, dancing, baking and cooking.

Dolores is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Bob) Werkmeister of Sioux City, Iowa, Elaine (Greg) Almond of Harvard, Neb., Miriam (Dave) Mead of Hartford, Stephen Stach of Letcher, and Theresa (Loren) Wakeman of Hawarden, Iowa; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Stephanie Wagner of Levittown, Pa.; cousins; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Steve; infant son, Anthony; son, Stuart; daughter, Allwyn; her parents; her uncle, Gus Lutzweiler; aunt, Alma (Jim) Jackson; and brother-in-law, Earl Wagner.

Marvin Moore

Mitchell

Marvin Moore, 83, of Mitchell, died Monday, May 13, 2019, at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 16, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Marvin L. Moore was born March 25, 1936, in Mount Vernon to A. M. and Francis (Newton) Moore. He was raised on family farms in the Mount Vernon and the Mitchell areas. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1955.

Marvin married Donna Thurman on Feb. 5, 1956. The two lived in the Chicago area while Marvin served two years in the Army. Marvin and Donna then made their home on a farm near Loomis where they raised their two children, Bryan and Devonne.

Marvin farmed until 1976, but continued raising cattle and hay for many years. He also took on several part-time jobs, including at the Mitchell sale barn and driving truck. Upon full retirement, he enjoyed restoring his 1948 Ford, hunting, trapping and reloading ammunition.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna; brother, Wally Moore; son, Bryan (Brenda) Moore; daughter, Devonne (Glen) Sommer; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Lannie.

Ellsworth “Bud” Junior DeLancey, 95, died Jan. 19, 2019, at his daughter’s home in Portland, Ore.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Burial occurred at the American Legion Cemetery in Mitchell.

Bud was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Woonsocket and grew up in Mitchell. Following graduation from Mitchell High School, he joined the military in 1942 at the age of 18. He served in the Eighth Air Force, an attachment to Patton’s Third Army and the 702nd Heavy Bombardment. He was stationed in England and worked as a munitions officer, disposing of unexploded ordinance, as well as loading and unloading bombs that were placed on the B24 aircrafts that were flown over Germany.

Upon leaving the military and returning to Mitchell, Bud discovered that his room had been rented to Phyllis Dewey, who he instantly fell in love with and married shortly thereafter. Bud bought the first Harley-Davidson motorcycle to be delivered in South Dakota after the war, and he and Phyllis rode it to Seattle. There, Bud started a 35-year career with Kenworth Truck Company in both Seattle and Kansas City, Mo., where he retired as a field service engineer. He most recently resided at Countryside Living in Mitchell.

Bud is survived by his children, Michael DeLancey, Donna DeLancey Boyd, and Thomas DeLancey; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Phyllis Dewey DeLancey; daughter, Mary DeLancey Bledsoe; his parents, Ellsworth and Caroline DeLancey; brothers, Russell, Orville and Robert DeLancey; and sisters, Marguerite Sundquist and Wilma Schlimgen.
