Robert James Hall

Visalia, Calif.

Robert James Hall, 85, passed away Tuesday, May 14 in Visalia, Calif.

Robert was born Aug. 30, 1933, to Ray and Mary Hall in Woonsocket. He attended high school in Alpena, where he would meet the love of his life, Marcy Hilgeman. Robert joined the United States Navy, and at the age of 18, he married his high school sweetheart before being stationed in the Philippines.

Upon his discharge from the Navy, Robert did some farming and then decided to use his Navy money to obtain an English degree from South Dakota State University, followed by a Masters degree in English from the University of South Dakota. He worked as an English professor at the College of Sequoias in Visalia, Calif. He would spend the rest of his working career at the school, eventually becoming the English department chairman for a time.

Robert loved hunting, fly-fishing, trapshooting, working out and traveling around the world and throughout the United States. He and Marcy joined an RV group that traveled the U.S. Robert was active with the Kaweah Fly Fisherman and the Tulare County Trap Club.

Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marcy; his children, Neil (Cathy) Hall of Fairfield, Calif., Scott (Barbara) Hall of Woodlake, Calif., Tamra Carlson of Fresno, Calif., Babs (Steve) Palmer of Danbury, Conn., Terry (Rebecca) Hall of Fresno, Calif., and Paul and Anne Byrne of Moycullen, Ireland; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ledoris Parker

Sioux Falls

Ledoris Parker, 94, passed away May 11, 2019, at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, May 15, at 10 a.m. at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket with Fr. Jim Friedrich officiating. Visitation was held at the church at 8:30 a.m. and Rosary at 9:30 a.m. Internment was at the St. Wilfrid Catholic Cemetery.

Ledoris was born on May 4, 1925, to Albert and Mary Forbes. She was united in marriage with Charles (Bud) Parker on July 28, 1947, in Woonsocket, where they made their home and raised their five children.

Ledoris was very active at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church all her life. Many hours were spent with church activities like singing in choir. In her earlier years, she worked in the parish office.

Ledoris is survived by her five children, Nita Chapman of Jemez Springs, N.M., Julie (Ken) Kirk of Austin, Texas, Darial (Dave) Hoffman of Winnebago, Minn., Lynn (Gary) Jensen and Roger (Becky) Parker of Sioux Falls; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jody (Al) Ernster and Janice (Volney Frank) Warner; one brother, Jim (Marge) Forbes; two sisters-in-law, Delores (George) Zilko and Lois Forbes; and many nieces and nephews.

Ledoris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles (Bud) Parker; siblings, Mary Castillo, Bob Forbes, and John Forbes; grandson, Joseph Kirk; and great-granddaughter, Courtney Heinzmann.  

Diane LeGrand

Woonsocket

Diane R. LeGrand, 58, of Woonsocket, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 13, at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore. There was a lunch gathering at D&K Outpost in Highmore prior to the funeral. Burial was at St. John’s Cemetery, Harrold. Luze Funeral Home of Highmore was entrusted with Diane’s arrangements.

Diane Ruth was born in Pierre on Oct. 18, 1960, to Richard and Gloria (Lehrkamp) French. She enjoyed six years on the farm at Harrold before the family moved to Huron where she attended St. Martin School and graduated from Huron High School.

On Dec. 17, 1977, she married Rodney LeGrand. To this union, two children were born, Jeremie and Crystal.

She lived in Huron, Alpena and Sioux Falls for some time before moving to Watertown and the Woonsocket nursing home. 

Diane is survived by her children, Crystal Christensen (Chad Kopfmann) of Wessington Springs and Jeremie LeGrand (Melinda Salas) of Huron; mother, Gloria French of Philip; five grandchildren; sisters, Fay (Doug) Hauk, Julie (Jeff) Stroup and Lori (Grant) Seaman; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard; her children’s father, Rodney; her maternal and paternal grandparents.
