Douglas Fenner

Iroquois

Douglas Kent Fenner, 54, of Iroquois, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls from a Glioblastoma brain tumor, which was diagnosed in March 2018.

His Memorial Service will be on Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Huron. Visitation with the family present will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. A Time of Sharing will begin at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.

Doug was born on Oct. 9, 1964, in Huron to Wendell and Bonnie (Walters) Fenner. Doug graduated from Iroquois High School in 1982 and Northern State University in 1984 with an Associate’s Degree. He followed the wheat harvest for several years as a custom harvester until his dad’s death in March of 1991 when he took over the family farm south of Iroquois.

On Feb. 2, 2002, Doug married Amy Nielsen in Jamaica.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Amy of Iroquois; mother, Bonnie of Huron; sisters, Rhonda (Ken Dissing) Towlerton and Donna (Dr. Lee) Mabee, all of Sioux Falls; in-laws, Eudale and Helen Nielsen of Huron; many nieces and nephews; a great-nephew; and his beloved dog, Wilson.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Wendell; grandparents, Merritt and Bertha Fenner, and Albert and Margaret Walters.

Glen White

Canova

Glen White, 61, of Canova, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019, as the result of a vehicular crash.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 30, at Sun Prairie Baptist Church, rural Salem. Visitation was held on Friday with a prayer service at the Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.

Glen was born on April 15, 1957 to Rex and Lillian (Anderson) White of rural Cogswell, N.D. He graduated from Sargent Central High School in Forman, N.D., in 1975. He was enlisted in the Army National Guard Unit in Sisseton. At that time, he farmed for Terry Zimbelman in Oakes, N.D., and worked at Melrose in Gwinner, N.D.

In 1982, he married Deb Palmquist of Canova. They lived in Williston, N.D., where Glen worked for Connor Sales, driving truck, hauling tanks and treaters to the oil fields. In 1986, they moved to Sioux Falls and then to rural Canova. Glen worked various jobs in the area to include construction for Iron Wheel in Salem and currently at Dawson Construction in Howard.

Glen was an active member of the Sun Prairie Baptist Church. Glen liked hunting, bowling, playing cards, four-wheeling, tractor pulls and gun shows.

Grateful for sharing his life are his two sons, Jeremy (Jessica) White of rural Letcher and Jasten (Angie) White of Alexandria; five grandkids; brothers, Vern (Marilyn) of Oakes, N.D., and Paul of Fargo, N.D.; sisters, Jeannie (Boyd) Sherrard of Aberdeen and Linda (Kenny) Teske of Oakes, N.D.; and nieces and nephews.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Lillian; and siblings, Michael, Randell, Carolyn, James and Susan.

Lila Tiede

Wessington Springs

Lila Jean Tiede, 88, of Wessington Springs passed away Tuesday, March 26, at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket. 

Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, at the Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Wessington Springs. Pastor Don Grubb officiated.

Lila Jean Tiede was born on Dec. 13, 1930, in Lennox to Peter and Aileen (Patridge) Javers. She had two sisters, Evelyn and Janet.

While growing up and attending school, she helped in the family business, the Lennox Greenhouse and Flower Shop. Lila graduated from Lennox High School in 1949, after missing her fifth grade year due to pneumonia. During her school years, she was an active and talented singer, singing in the school choir, city band and church.

Lila met Ronald Tiede on a blind date. They were married on Nov. 20, 1951, at the Presbyterian Church in Lennox. Ronald was soon drafted in the army and Lila stayed home in Lennox, giving birth to the first of five children. Lila joined her husband in Fairbanks, Alaska until returning to Lennox, where she went back to work in the family greenhouse.

In 1965, they moved to Wessington Springs. Lila and her husband operated a greenhouse and The Plant and Plaster Barn. When a devastating fire took their home five miles north of Wessington Springs, they moved to town, where she went to work at the Wessington Springs Hospital as the food service supervisor. Ron was taken suddenly by a fatal heart attack in 1982.

With her daughter, Lisa, Lila operated the Gazebo and Garden, a gift shop and greenhouse. Lila was active in the Wessington Springs Legion Auxiliary, Quilt Club and Red Hat Society. After retiring, Lila lived in the Hillcrest Heights apartments. Due to health issues, she moved into the Kimball assisted living facility to be closer to family for three years, then to PVHC in 2017 for full care.

Lila is survived by her children, Stephen (Donna) Tiede of Woonsocket, Barbara (Ken) Brodkorb of Kimball, David Tiede of Craig, Colo., Rhonda Ford, and Lisa (Steve) Sall of Wessington; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter, and two sisters.
