Anita Louise Parker, age 54, passed away peacefully at her home in rural Lansing, Kan., on  Monday, Nov. 5, 2012.
Anita was remembered during a memorial service on Monday, Nov. 12 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, Leavenworth, Kan. Chaplain (MAJ, USA) Donald Carrothers officiated.
Anita Louise Hammonds was born in 1958, at Little Rock AFB, Ark., to Porter and Laura Hammonds. When Anita’s father retired from the Air Force in 1964, the family settled in Orlando, Fla., where she lived until 1981. Anita graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1976. After graduation Anita went on to sing professionally for the next five years.
Anita married Jim Parker in 1981, at the McCoy AFB chapel, Orlando.  Over the course of the next 21 years, Anita and her family lived in 10 different locations including Keflavik, Iceland and Kalkar, Germany.  Following Jim’s retirement in 2001, the family settled in Lansing, Kan.
After moving to Kansas, Anita worked as a para-educator in the Lansing Middle School.
Anita was a devoted military mom with two sons currently serving on active duty and a third son a former Air National Guardsman.
Anita cherished her family and pets, loved gardening, antiques, walking and exercise. At the time of her death, she was an active member of the Ft. Leavenworth Main Post Chapel.
Anita is survived by her husband, James “Jim” of Lansing, Kan.; three sons, Christopher of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., Daniel of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Steven of Greenville, Texas; her mother, Laura Hammonds (Mizzell) of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Wanda Gerry of Orlando, Fla., Yvonne (Bonnie) and Charles (Chuck) Gallagher of San Antonio, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Rita (Hamon) Hammonds of Oviedo, Fla.; four nephews, one niece, one great-nephew and three great-nieces.
Anita was preceded in passing by her father, Porter Hammonds.

Marie Parce, 96, Mitchell, formerly of Letcher, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, in Firesteel Healthcare Center, Mitchell.
Funeral services were Dec. 18 in Letcher Community Church with burial in Sunset Cemetery, Mitchell.
Marie Parce, daughter of Frank and Margaret (Parquet) Parce, was born June 16, 1916 on the family farm in rural Letcher.
She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Letcher. Marie graduated salutatorian from Letcher High School.
After schooling, Marie helped on the family farm. She became a resident in Firesteel Healthcare Center in March 2012.
She was a member of the Letcher UCC Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang. In her earlier years, she played the soprano saxophone.
Grateful for having shared her life is her brother, Homer Parce, Letcher; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David and Irven; a sister-in-law, Gladys; and her niece’s husband, John Stange.

Mary Hemminger, 82, Woonsocket, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 in Prairie View Care Center, Woonsocket.
Funeral services were Dec. 15 in Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell. Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery, Letcher.
Mary Ruth Hemminger was born May 24, 1930 in Willow Springs, Mo., to John and Fern (Ziegler) Essink.
In 1936 she moved with her family to Artesian.
She graduated from Artesian High School in 1948 and then attended Madison College, where she received a teaching degree.
On June 9, 1951, she married Cecil Hemminger in the Methodist Church at Pipestone, Minn.
They resided in Canada for five years and then in 1958 they purchased a farm west of Letcher.
She taught at rural schools in Sanborn and Davison counties.
In 1965, they moved to the Sheldon Hemminger farm south of Letcher.
In 2005, she made  her home at Prairie View Care Center.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Sheilla (Jerry) Bereza, Solsgirth, Manitoba, Canada; two sons Sheldon Hemminger, Letcher, and William (Martha) Hemminger, LeGrange, Ky.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Joann (Ellis) Ross, Watford City, N.D.; and one brother, John (Penny) Essink, Lead.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; a sister, Opal Sprauge and husband Stanley; and her parents.
