A nice crowd attended the annual Courthouse open house held Friday. The Community Choir performed some Christmas selections from their program, “Silent Night! Holy Night!” and everyone enjoyed the Christmas goodies prepared by the courthouse employees.A scavenger hunt kept many of the kids busy looking for items hidden on the trees and Santa visited with the children and handed out candy.

The season’s first real snow came in the form of a real South Dakota blizzard over the weekend.
The snow started as a cold front moving in Friday night following a mild Wednesday and Thursday in the 50s. Snow continued off and on, really picking up early Saturday afternoon.
Sunday light snow continued to fall, and was joined with winds in the 30-40+ mile per hour range. Mitchell recorded a 54 mph wind gust.
Roads became more treacherous throughout the weekend’s storm and visibility was reduced to nothing in the area during Sunday morning’s wind.
By Sunday afternoon, the wind had gone down and the sun came out, making perfect conditions for warmly dressed snowmobilers.
High for the week was 55 on Wednesday and low was 15º F Monday, with the nighttime low of –10º the same day. We are left with a few inches of snow, most of which has blown into drifts.
