    The Woonsocket American Legion Auxiliary has provided the Woonsocket fifth grade students with copies of the Constitution for use in their classroom.
Auxiliary member, Jo White, made the presentation to the students and their teacher, Miss Foos.

BROOKINGS – Sydney Swenson of Woonsocket was awarded the Susan Wilder Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences and the K. Lorette Lackey Scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year at South Dakota State University. Swenson is a junior majoring in exercise science at SDSU, where she is part of the Exercise Science Club and is a SDSU Anatomy Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. She is the daughter of Dan and Jane Swenson and is a 2010 graduate of the Woonsocket High School.

John Michael Steinmetz, 39, Howard, formerly of Vermillion, died Nov. 29, 2012, as the result of a car accident.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 4, 2012, in Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion, with the Rev. Trisha Boese officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
John was born Sept. 24, 1973 at Vermillion to Harold and Betty (Marken) Steinmetz.
John grew up in Vermillion and attended Vermillion High School.
He graduated in 1992 and moved to Phoenix, where he attended UTI Phoenix for auto mechanics.
He moved back to South Dakota and married Kristen Ann Brown on Aug. 1, 1998.
Together they have two children, Stephen and John.
John was dedicated to his family. He loved spending time with his boys.
John enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting, listening to his loud music and working on cars. He was a free spirit who enjoyed living life wild and free and with a kind heart. If you ever needed a hand, he was always there.
John is survived by his wife, Kristen Steinmetz, Howard; his two sons, Stephen Brown-Steinmetz and John Henry Steinmetz, both of Howard; his mother, Betty Steinmetz, Toronto; his father, Harold Steinmetz, Letcher; his sisters, Tami (Randy) Young, Mitchell, and Kim (Dave) Nerud, Clear Lake; his brothers, Gerald Steinmetz, Mitchell, and Jim (Jenn) Steinmetz, Letcher; parents-in-law, Richard and Deb Brown, Vermillion; his sister-in-law, Melissa Brown, Vermillion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his faithful dog, Ozzy.
