Hal Neugebauer

West Fargo, N.D.

Hal Neugebauer, 94, West Fargo, N.D. died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Essentia Health, Fargo.
Memorial services were Saturday in Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery Mausoleum, Fargo.
Halbert D. Neugebauer was born Dec. 1, 1918 at Mitchell to Robert and Cecelia (Stahl) Neugebauer.
He grew up near Mitchell and attended school at Letcher.
He taught in a one-room school and drove the school bus.
Hal married Clara Titze on Dec. 25, 1941, at Mitchell.
He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Australia and New Guinea.
Upon his honorable discharge, Clara and Hal made their home at Fargo, where he worked for the North Dakota State Health Department as a field representative until he retired.
Hal was an active member in Olivet Lutheran Church. He was a member of Sertoma Club and the FM Barbershop Chorus for many years.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger days and loved to golf. Later in life, he enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; three sons, Roger (Bonnie) and Robert (Linda) both of Seattle and Brian (Kathy), West Fargo; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a sister, Gladys (Cliff) Hansen, Brainerd, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn.
Hal’s family requests memorials to Olivet Choir Music Fund or Oak Grove High School.

    Lucille McGraw Jacobsen, 97, died Jan. 24, 2013.
A funeral mass was held Monday, Jan. 28 in  St. Lambert’s Catholic Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation with a rosary service was held before mass at the church. Interment was in the St. Scholastica Cemetery, Letcher. Lunch followed in the American Legion Hall in Letcher.
Lucille was born in Mitchell to Anna and Henry McGraw. She lived on a farm with 10 other siblings in Letcher.
In 1936 she married Harvey Jacobsen. He preceded her in death in 1966.
For many years she worked at the public school cafeteria and then at VanLaecken Lumber until the age of 75.
She is survived by her four children, Ken (Shirley), Nancy (Don) Lewis, Dennis (Deb) and Bob (Bec); a daughter-in-law, Joan; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Elaine Kane

LaBelle, Fla.

Elaine Clara (Anderson) Kane, 81, LaBelle, Fla., formerly of Mitchell, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, in her home at LaBelle.
Funeral services were Wednesday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Mitchell. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Mitchell. A prayer service was held Tuesday evening in Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.
She was born May 22, 1931 at Storla to Leonard and Edna (Bibler) Anderson.
She attended Thompson School through the eighth grade and graduated from Letcher High School in 1949.
She attended Rock Valley College.
On Aug. 17, 1949, she married Lowell Kane at Artesian.
They began their lives in Letcher, then Mitchell and then moved to Rockford, Ill., in 1955.
They raised their five children in Rockford. She worked 10 years at Riverside Nursing Home.
Lowell and Elaine traveled and spent summers in Savanna, Ill. before retiring in LaBelle.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lowell; three daughters, Saundra Reed, New York City, Susan Kane, LaBelle, and Pamela (Brian) Fleming, Machensey, Ill.; two sons, Tom (Penny) Kane, Byron, Ill., and Tim (Rachel) Kane, Machensey; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Corrine (Lavern) Larson, Mitchell, Eldean Stekl, Mitchell, and Thelma Tastad; three sisters-in-law, Kathleen Anderson, Connie (Dick) Lidman and Karen (Gary) Krantz; and one brother-in-law, Mike (Donna) Kane.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Peggy; her parents and one brother, Archie Anderson.
