Sanborn Central Elementary students were entertained by a guest reader on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Tessa Dee, Miss South Dakota 2013, read to students in grades PreK-5 as part of their “Book It” reading celebration.
Dee is a native of Mitchell and a graduate of the University of South Dakota. Miss Dee’s platform is Project Bookworm. It is a children’s literacy organization she created in 2011. Through Project Bookworm, she has created connections with children and books across the state of South Dakota. She has facilitated “Build-a-Book” workshops and worked with after school programs.
Dee’s goal is to read at more than 74 schools during her reign as Miss South Dakota. That is the previous record another Miss South Dakota holds.
