The Woonsocket Water Festival had a new event this year, an all-ages 5K run/walk, as a change of pace from the triathlon, which had been held the past few years.
Winners of the 5K in each age group are as follows:
Top male runner: Rex Schlicht; top female runner: Melissa Peters; age 0-13: female – Callie Bezpaletz; male – Spens Schlicht; age 14-18: female – Alissa Ball; male – Rex Schlicht; age 19-29: female – Melissa Peters; male – Jordan Schulz; age 30-39: female – Kristie Ogle; male – Michael Torres; 40+: female – Anita Fouberg; male – Rick Muller.

 

Fishin’ on the Fourth

Around 50 compete in morning fishing derby

LUCAS CHRISTENSEN kicks back and waits for the fish to start biting during the derby. Lucas is the son of Eric Christensen and Crystal Christensen of Woonsocket.

The annual Fourth of July fishing derby was held at Lake Prior on Thursday morning, July 4.
Approximately 50 contestants showed up for a great morning of fishing. Prizes were awarded in several categories.
Winners in each age group and category are:
Age 0-5: biggest fish – Eli White and Ty Kleinsasser; smallest fish – Brinley Fuller; age 6-10: biggest fish – Aiden Zerr; smallest fish – Grant Hinker and Courtney Olinger; age 11-14: biggest fish – Zach Kleinsasser; smallest fish – Isaac Hinker and Caleb Zerr; most unique catch: Luke Larson; most fish caught: Mayce and Sonja Larson; catch of the day: Zach Kleinsasser.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pictured is the first place team “Independence Day”: Arid “Moose” Boschee, Josh Reider, Amanda Boschee, Arin Boschee, Tricia Boschee, Bret Wynja and Lauren Borchard.

The 2013 Water Festival double elimination volleyball tournament began with 10 teams. At the end of the day, team “Independence Day” sat in the winners bracket with no losses and team “LJ” had moved back into the winners bracket championship game with one loss.
After three matches of play, team “LJ” had another win and team “Independence Day” had their first loss, moving the tournament into its final championship round. Team “Independence Day” won the final round to claim first place.
