The Artesian Veteran’s Day Banquet was held Sunday, Nov. 3 at noon with approximately 80 people attending.
The dinner was catered by Annie Podhradsky of Woonsocket. Karen Lambert, commander of the Artesian American Legion, conducted the program. Lara Brink sang the National Anthem and a special song about World War II called, “The Last Race of Summer” composed by Benjamin Britton. The speaker was Jim Anderson of the Mitchell Chapter of the Patriot Riders.

The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Lady Blackhawks skunked Iroquois, 3-0, last Thursday night in Huron to earn a trip to the District 6B Championship.
Set scores were 27-25, 25-16 and 25-17.
Marissa Weber was the leader of the pack with a double-double, 12 kills and 11 digs. She also added four aces to her stats. Myah Selland had seven kills and two blocks and Rachel Selland racked up nine digs, 19 assists and two aces.
Iroquois was led by Kelsey Blue with four kills and 18 assists, Allison Bich with seven kills and Britney Moller with four kills and three blocks.
Iroquois ended their season 6-23, while SCW moved on to meet Wolsey-Wessington in the championship Friday night in Huron.

Accident Report

Nov. 14, 2013

On Oct. 31 at 7:35 a.m. Shelby Selland, 17, of Letcher was traveling on 404th Ave. when she hit a deer about a half mile south of 239th St. There was an estimated $2,000 damage to the 2013 Nissan Altima, owned by Brett Selland, that she was driving. There were no injuries.
Oct. 31 around 7:45 p.m. Scott Borkowski, 43, of Mitchell hit a calf that was in the roadway on 408th Ave. almost a mile south of 225th St. There was an estimated $15,000 damage to the 2001 Ford F250 he was driving, which was owned by Justin Fraser of Mitchell. The calf, owned by Tim Pearson of Forestburg, was killed and valued at around $1,000. There were no human injuries.
On Nov. 1 at 7:35 a.m., Steven Zoss, 39, of Mitchell hit a deer while traveling north of Hwy. 37. There was around $4,000 damage done to his 2010 GMC Acadia and no injuries.
Nov. 2, just after midnight, Molly Ebersdorfer, 47, of Fedora hit a deer on 234th St., just west of 415th Ave. causing $1,850 to her 2000 Cadillac Seville. No injuries.
Nov. 4 at about 7:15 a.m., Terrence Kos, 70, of Henry hit a deer while traveling on Hwy. 34. There was about $1,000 damage to the 2010 Ford Escape owned by Young Broadcasting of Sioux Falls. There were no injuries.
