Margaret Ellen “Myrt” Sweeney Thompson, 69, died on Feb. 26 after a year long battle with cancer.
A wake was held Friday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m. with a funeral mass held Tuesday, March 5 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Wilfrid’s Catholic Church, Woonsocket.
Margaret was born Oct.19, 1943 to Margaret (Wingert) and Ernest Sweeney near Eagleville, Mo. The family moved to South Dakota in 1945. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School and Woonsocket High School in 1961.
On June 30, 1962 she married Keith Leo Thompson, twin son of Martin and Rose Thompson. They moved to Big Falls, Minn. in 1970 returning to South Dakota in 1974.
She lived the rest of her life with special friend, Maynard Sievert, farming near Artesian, before moving to Woonsocket in 2000. She worked at home for Mitchell Manufacturing for 20 years.
She is survived by four children, John (Dawn) of Kingman, Ariz., James “Nick” of Woonsocket, Theresa (Alvin Zobel) of Alexandria, Lorri Ann (Aaron) Tucker of Canova; five grandchildren; special friend, Maynard Sievert and his children, Tod (LeeAnn) of Mitchell, Lori of Mitchell, Bradley (Teresa) Sievert of Pleasanton, Neb., Stephanie of Mitchell, and Ryan of Mitchell and Maynard’s 10 grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Keith Thompson; brothers, Howard and Charles; brother-in-law, M. Houlihan; two sisters-in-law, Joan and Donna Sweeney; and nephew, Matthew Sweeney.
