The Letcher American Legion  Auxiliary met Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Letcher Community Center.  Those present were President Sandi Ruml, Edith Moe, Cindy VanLaecken, Mary Luckett and Pat Nelson.
President Ruml read letters from District 6 President Theresa Maeschen. The major discussion was about trying to get more members to join. Anyone who has a husband, father or grandfather that was in the military can join. If interested please call Sandi Ruml or Shirley Ruml.
The Mid-Winter Conference meeting is coming up Jan. 24-26 in Huron. Edith and Donnie Moe will be representing  the Letcher unit.
The Americanism rules will be distributed to the schools soon, also the Girls State forms and scholorship applications. All junior girls that want to can fill out an application to attend Girls State in Vermillion for a week in June.  Its a very interesting program and lots of fun.
Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. was the date set for the firemans appreciation supper this year to honor the local fire department and the Fireman of the Year.
The Legionette of the Year will be picked at the next meeting.
Chaplain Pat Nelson read the closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned by President Ruml. Hostess was Cindy VanLaecken and lunch was shared with the Legion men after the meetings. The next meeting will be Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.

Woonsocket Elementary students who achieved honor roll status during the second quarter are listed below. Congratulations are extended to these fourth through sixth graders for their academic achievement during the second quarter.
Superior honor roll (all A’s):  fourth grade – Isaiah Bartunek, Dilyn Brooks, Mary Frances Bruce and Brooke Doering; fifth grade – Wyatt Burkel; sixth grade – Carter Linke and Brooklyn Swenson.
“A” honor roll: fifth grade – Kaitlin Brueske, Aleya Fry and Collin Schmiedt; sixth grade – Taylor Lindsey, Megan Linke, Wesley Linke and  Taryn Ziebart.
“B” honor roll: fourth grade – Gabe Boschee, Trinity Boschee, Skylar Gravatt, Taryn Guinn, Emily Ohlrogge, Clay Olinger and Trista White; fifth grade – Xavier Baysinger, Teryn Bartunek, Tyler Eddy, Caycee Guinn, Madison Schmiedt, Chloe Sewall, Noah Terkildsen and Ellie Von Eye; sixth grade – Cage Boschee, Jessa Fisher, Mariah Jost, Zachary Kleinsasser, Jenna Stephens, Josie Weber and Morgan Wolff.

    Winners of the Redmen Club Reading Program for the second quarter were the sophomores with 10 of the 11 students participating. They earned the largest average number of Accelerated Reader points per student in the junior high and high school.
Students from other classes that earned 50 or more points for the quarter also earned a ticket to Mr. Weber’s roll/juice party. They were: Nathan Linke, Ashleigh Fry, Destiny Brick, Taylor Burkel, Zeb Bruce, Aaron Linke and Kathy Enfield.
