On Saturday, Dec. 7, the Blackhawk grapplers traveled to Kimball to participate in the Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes Invitational.
Other teams participating were Andes Central, Marion-Freeman, Miller/Highmore-Harrold, Mt. Vernon-Plankinton-Corsica, Lower Brule, Sunshine Bible Academy, Wagner, Wolsey-Wessington, Winner, Ipswich/Leola, and Philip Area.
The Blackhawk’s were represented by Wyatt Stevens at 106; Riley Stevens at 132; Trinity Brunsen at 152; and Jacob Fouberg at 195.
W. Stevens placed fourth; Brunsen placed fifth and Fouberg placed second.
First round: 106, W. Stevens over Colton Frei (Wag) by dec, 6-4; 132, R. Stevens lost to Rance Johnson (PA) by fall, 1:04; 152, Brunsen won by forfeit; 195, Fouberg, bye.
First round wrestle-backs 132 R. Stevens lost to Riley Rinehart (MHH).
Quarter finals: 106, W. Stevens defeated Daymon Steuck (IPS) by fall, 3:52; 152, Brunsen lost to Lane Blasius (PA) by fall, 1:47; 195, Fouberg defeated Gabe Sandal (PA) by fall, 5:46.
Second round wrestle-backs: 152, Brunsen, bye.
Third round wrestle-backs: 152, Brunsen won by fall, :25, over Lorenzo Longe (AC).
Semi-finals: 106, W. Stevens lost to Marcus Urban (MVPC); 195, Fouberg over  Jimmy Sharkey (WIN) dec 7-5 OT.
Fourth round wrestle-backs:  106, W. Stevens over Ty Namanny (KWLPG) dec. 4-1; 152, Brunsen lost by fall to Trig Clark (SBA).
In the championship round at 195, Fouberg faced Cameron Kostal  (MVPC) and lost by dec. 8-2.
Consolation round: 106, W. Stevens lost to Blade Forman (MHH) by fall, 1:14; 152, Brunsen over Dakota Dougherty (WIN) dec. 9-1.
The BlackHawks traveled to Sunshine Bible for a duel on Dec. 7 and will travel to Gregory Dec. 14 for a tournament, Andes Central Round Robin on Dec. 19 and Plankinton Dec. 21 for a tournament. They will then resume action in January.

Artesian Town Board proceedings

Unapproved Minutes December 4, 2013

The Town of Artesian Council met on December 4, 2013 in regular session at the Artesian Community Center. Council Member Effling called the meeting to order with Council Member Richard and Danek, Finance Officer Ebersdorfer, and T. Fridley present.
The minutes of the November 6, 2013 meeting were read. Motion to approve by Richard, seconded by Danek, motion carried. Finance Officer reports were read and approval of vouchers. Motion to approve by Richard, seconded by Danek, motion carried. The following vouchers were presented for the month:

The Sanborn County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. with Vice-Chairman Ohlrogge presiding in the absence of Chairman Ebersdorfer.  Other members present were:  P. Larson, Blindauer and S. Larson.  Also present was Auditor Larson.  Motion by P. Larson, seconded by Blindauer, to approve the minutes of the last meeting as presented.  Motion carried.
GAME, FISH & PARKS
Brian Pauly, Department of Game, Fish & Parks, presented an option for a walk-in hunting area on land owned by the county. The property is leased on a three year contract.  When the contract expires we will revisit the option.
HIGHWAY
Lee Goergen, Highway Supervisor/Weed Supervisor, and Sheri Mentele, Secretary, met with the Board.  Mentele gave a report on the new fuel system at the Highway Department.  Mark Snedeker discussed leveling the spoils on Ditch 14 on his property.  Goergen said it could be done in the afternoon.
LIQUOR LICENSING
Motion by S. Larson, seconded P. Larson, to approve the following liquor licenses:
John Doren – Retail (On-Sale) Liquor and Package (Off Sale) Liquor – DBA/Doren’s Bar.
Twin Lakes Resort, LLC– Retail (On-Sale) Liquor.
Motion carried.
DITCH 21
Gary Eddy met with the board to voice his concerns over the assessments on Ditch 21.
MITIGATION PLAN
Jason Coenen, Emergency Management Director, met with the board to discuss the mitigation plan.  District III will work on the application.  Motion by P. Larson, seconded by Blindauer, to work with District III on the plan and application.  Motion carried.
DAVISON COUNTY PRISONER CARE
Motion by Blindauer, seconded by Larson, to enter into agreement for prisoner care with Davison County for the year 2014 for $86.00 per day.  Motion carried.
FINAL MEETING OF THE YEAR
Motion by Blindauer, seconded by P. Larson, to meet December 30 for the final meeting of the year to conduct end of the year business.  Motion carried.
