Harold “Butch” Wayne Severson, 73, Artesian, died Thursday, May 14, 2015, at his residence in Artesian.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23 at Willoughby Funeral Home, Howar. A private family burial will follow the memorial service. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home with Rev. Mary Lee Lint officiating.
Harold Wayne Severson was born Feb. 5, 1942 in Mitchell to Kenneth and Lucille (Hall) Severson. Butch grew up in the Artesian area graduating from Artesian High School in 1960. He then married and started working for Rubendall Cattle Company. He worked there for 14 years before starting at the Sanborn County Highway Department, working there for 25 years at which time he retired. Butch still wanted to work as he could not stay idle. He worked numerous jobs, lastly for the Howard Co-op.
Butch enjoyed hunting, tinkering in his garage building birdhouses, but his greatest enjoyment was fishing. Butch looked forward to family gatherings and visits from his family, especially his grandchildren. Butch will be greatly missed by his family, other relatives and friends.
Those grateful for having shared in his life include his two sons, Bob (Sue) Severson of Garretson and Brent (Tami) Severson of Howard; two daughters, Brenda (Tim) Glanzer of Howard and Barb (Mike) Spelbring of Pierre; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother, who helped raise him.
