MYAH SELLAND masterfully gets a loose ball under control then proceeds to take it to the basket for another two points during second half action Monday night.
Myah Selland scored 22 of her teams 35 points in a Monday night loss to Class A No. 2 team Mt. Vernon/Plankinton.
In front of a packed Parents’ Night crowd, full of ugly sweaters in celebration of the season, the junior’s heroic efforts weren’t quite enough to contain the high-powered MVP girls. The final score stood at 53-35.
Kayla Olson and Abby Doering both chipped in with four points in the loss.
The Blackhawks shot just 27 percent from the field on 15-of-56. The Titans shot 68 percent on 27-of-40 and outrebounded the Hawks 31-13.
MVP was led by future SDSU Jackrabbit Megan Bultsma with 26 points. Ashley Glanzer helped out the 4-0 Titans with 10.
The Blackhawks fall to 1-1 on the season and are rated No. 3 in the SD Sportswriters Class B polls, up from fourth place last week. Mt. Vernon/Plankinton remains in second place in the Class A rankings.
The girls next play during their Christmas break in the Parkston Classic on Monday, Dec. 28, then return home to Sanborn Central after the break to host Hitchcock/Tulare in a doubleheader Jan. 2.
